Corrosion has set in at the corners, branching across the roof and partway down the walls. It’s cold in here, and the air is stale; there’s been no movement here in a long time.

A bed is lined up against the left wall, linen straight and orderly. A black-bound journal lies on top of the sheets. Beside it is a simple dresser with drawers, unadorned. Behind you is a door.]

[You exit the room into a hallway. Rust and corrosion are rife throughout here as well; maybe even worse. There are places where the metal panelling on the walls have been eaten away enough to expose the stone beneath. To the right, the passage extends down towards a stairwell. The ceiling has partly collapsed this way, with debris and a steel girder scattered across the path. A closed door lies behind the fallen girder.

To the left... is nothing but rubble. Wherever this passage used to go, it’s sealed off by fallen stone and metal.

As you step into the hall, the floor beneath you vibrates, a faint rolling boom echoing down below.]

[The stairs lead down into darkness, but not for long. A dim, red light breaks as you emerge from the walls of the stairwell, and it may take you a few moments to adjust. The room you’ve entered, shadowed as it is by the red light suffusing everything, is still and silent.

When you reach the bottom of the stairs, though, the strangely dark floor takes visible shape; more than one shape, in fact. The floor is littered with bodies, sprawled across the entire room. Skeins of barbed wire are twisted throughout them, some coiled around them, others lying inert.

On the far side, the outline of another door is visible.]

[You emerge into another hallway. Same as the hall above, this one is lined floor to ceiling in steel, but it seems to be in better shape than the upper levels. The steel gleams, and while the light isn’t warm, as such, it’s brighter than the places you’ve already been in. There are, however, still cracks in the plating here and there. They rattle slightly as another concussive boom shakes the floor, louder this time.

The hall goes on for a short distance before you come to two doors opposite each other, one left and one right. The hall continues on ahead.]

[The room is sparse. There is no furniture or anything on the floor, the metal shining unadorned. There are no cracks in here. To the left, a series of panels and lights are set into the surface of the wall. To the right, sprawling along almost the entire wall there, is an array of cords, great masses of red and white extending out from the middle. The wall opposite the door is bare and featureless.]

[The Beach]

[You head down the stairs. The light disappears partway down, and you continue in darkness. And then, quite suddenly, you find the stairs dropping out from under you and you land with a jolt on solid ground, light flaring in your vision again.

You’re standing on a beach. The sand spreads away in front of you, damp and bleak, until it meets a slowly sloshing waterline... but it looks more like liquid stone than water, ebbing and pulsing in a disturbingly familiar way. Above you stretches nothing but blackness. Sloping down ahead of you, the sand begins to be broken up by shrapnel, and some bodies lie here and there, some of them in familiar blank colours, others in blue and yellow flightsuits. The leaning, shattered mass of a submarine lies a few hundred metres away to the left, smoke billowing from a hole in its side. Opposite it on the right is a giant snake carcass, black scales burnt and curling away from the flesh, its head exploded open and broken fangs on display.

More pressing, however, are the two figures facing each other a short distance away, dashing back and forth, hurling things into each others’ path at furious speed. Both of them look like Edge, but while one is wearing the familiar black, bronze-trimmed suit of Ophiuchus, the other is in the same blue and yellow flightsuit as the people on the beach.

And as one of the objects they’re flinging at each other spirals off course and slams into the sand nearby, exploding with a terrific boom, you may realise just what those noises you’ve been hearing are. They’re missile impacts.]
