I know I'm being selfish. And I'm not going to deny that. I'm not doing this to be 'noble,' and I know you're angry at me and it's probably hypocritical.

But it's because I'm more worried about losing something without doing something to keep it, even if it's doing something horrible.

"Something horrible" that could end up destroying you. And you can't tell me for sure that you know it won't.

Seems counter-productive, if you're going for selfishness.

How often are choices the 'selfish' one and the 'selfless' one? Even here. You save yourselves to not suffer physical pain or you save others so you don't suffer emotional pain and guilt?

I could put all the blame on you. You're the one choosing to die, I don't want to give up my life, all of it basically ends up as 'your fault' and I'm not in danger. I can say I'm 'respecting your wishes' so I feel better. But it'd be because I didn't want to feel bad or risk my life.

Or I can be the bad guy and save you because I don't want to give you up. Even if it's dangerous, at least my life is a gamble instead of yours being a guarantee. Not because of just the idea of 'saving you,' but because it's a bet on getting the outcome I'm happiest with.

[Still walking, now with intent]

And that's where we're never, ever going to agree, Razzy. Your life isn't a fair gamble for mine.

[I guess I will be following with intent!]

You're right, that's why we won't agree right now. Because you refuse to see value in your life compared to anyone else's.

But if you get to decide you're less than dirt, then I get to decide my life is worth gambling for that less than dirt.

[He stops so abruptly that you probably end up running into him. He opens his mouth to say something, then...closes it. He settles for just redoubling his pace, instead]

You should go home, Razzy.

[OOF]

...

[Debating, debating, should I-]

[No, what am I thinking? I am horrible at these sort of situations, if I'm thinking I should back off, that probably means I should.]

...okay.

Still true.

...I'll see you tomorrow.
