Who: Delpavo and anyone up to fording the river to visit
Where: Geardorm, main foyer
When: Day 286, evening to night
What: Blanket forts and snuggle piles.

[In the time when others have been out talking, there's been a minor decorative change to Delpavo's main shared living space. It looks like all of Pavo's blankets and pillows have been amassed between the two curving staircases—spread over chairs and stools and hung from lines tied between the banisters to form an airy, panelled tent.

Through the open flap waits a small pile of combs and brushes, more than a few mechanical parts and tools, cups of warmed root milk and a small tray of bite-sized morsels.

And spreading the last of the pillows on the mattresses and boards covering the floor is Feathers, humming softly to herself.]

Help . . . with what?

[lifts a hand to tap two fingers to his temple]

Hasn't it been long enough? And after that... other means of helping.

And what would you do?

Aim for a happier ending.

[Shakes her head.]

Even if it's you . . . what's between me and Mirror . . . it isn't something anyone from Vulpecula or Hydra should be involved in. Or Cepheus, either.

There's been . . . too much has happened already. Anything more just hurts everything worse.

Don't you think I know that?

But there's a way to try for it, Feathers. But I need your help for it.

She's leaving, Jinx. There's not . . . really anything more to do.

She's not whole. You and I both know this.

To let her go with it like that...

[. . . nods.]

There's . . . a piece missing, still. And a crack, deep enough she can't heal it herself.

But if it's a choice between those, and freedom . . . anyone should choose to see the sky.

Except if that choice to see the sky would result in the sky being seen from a backwards perspective.

She's a mirror. Nothing will fix that.

You're probably right.

But, Feathers... do you really think I'd talk with you about this if I didn't think there was a chance for things to go right?

I don't know.

You . . . aren't the first, to want her and I separate again. Not even the first this week.

I didn't think I was.

It really has been a long time, you know.

Isn't that the strange part?

If . . . I said tomorrow, that the part of her in me wasn't there any more . . . would anything change?

It's been a long time. A long time where all she's done is watch, and listen . . . even when she's wanted to do more, even when the people she could have hurt were some of the ones she hated the most. She hasn't done anything.

It's like all this time . . . all she wanted was company.

[doesn't respond for a moment. actually pausing to close his eyes and laugh to himself, shoulders going forward for a moment in a half-shrug, half-closing off motion]

I think you're a bit mistaken about the not doing anything to anyone. She's targeted Cepheus, Lacerta, and my partners Hydra plenty within that time. Only Flowers and the King's ruling has kept her from doing much else with Hydra, even.

But I know. I know she just wants someone--more than that, someone who understands. After all, she keeps offering to take me away, to keep me.

It's only too bad that she keeps picking people who still have too much to give up.

I meant . . . not through me. I know what she's done. Why people hate her. She's a judge . . . the only way they survive, the only way they get stronger is through our sacrifices. And she's really powerful now.

Escalating events have that tendency.

It's also not the first time she's ever gotten power enough.

But it's the first time she didn't have a way to run away.
