[The end of curfew comes as quietly as it begins—one by one, the lights of the low torches reappear, the darkness once again no more than places where the light is not.

The lock holding Cepheus's door clicks open.

Outside, two beebats lie dead on the doorstop. Beyond them, three bodies lie together in a heap of tangled purple. There's no sign of the bandages they'd left with, or even of their normal clothes at all; each wears a pair of simple two-piece, button-down pyjamas, the material soft and patterned here and there with shadow animals. Bunnies decorate Red's, dogs frolic across Syaoran's, and birds take flight across Yayoi's.

Though the wounds of the other two are covered, the arm filling Red's sleeve is easy to see, the hand below the pajama's cuff stiff and waxy pale. As the lights grow, the stiffness fades into supple skin, but the colour remains as it is—albino pale, almost white next to the tan of skin that once knew the sun.

Sprinkled lightly over all of them, here and there, are places where mist has settled into cool dew.]
