[There's a real reason most Ophiuchus prefer to patrol during 'daylight' hours... While there's no requirements for interaction with people after curfew, there's a certain tangible FEEL of the dark just outside of the ring of the flickering lamplight. There's the distant, echoing scuffling and faint grinding sound of stone as the only sound breaking the silence... There's the way that the ground seems to waver at the very horizon of light, as if the small circle of light around you really is the only thing that's protecting you from something bigger...

And honestly, Nishi right now is torn between deeply regretting his choice to be out, and a terrible sort of horrified fascination with this world.

But tonight, he isn't out looking for stray Blanks trapped outside.]

[The base of the lamp explodes out, the oil within hovering like a perfect ball in the second before the fire races down it, consuming it, flaring pure white and magnesium bright.

Behind him, the shadow goes inky dark, no longer his own at all but that of a child with loose hair in a loose robe, the thick cloth of a blindfold wrapped around its head.

The dark of night closes in from all sides, leaving them in an almost perfect circle of light, with nothing beyond.]

Then these are the rules: only that you must walk back to the great serpent's chamber, and not run.

[For the very moment that the lamp shattered, Nishi froze, complete and overwhelming terror rooting him to the spot...

It carefully and cautiously unwinds as the light stays strong, without a flicker...

Still, it's hard NOT to feel how close the darkness, and its artificial silence press in from every side.]

[The first steps are awkward and hesitant, making sure the light is following.]

[Almost stumbles but catches himself, hands braced above his knees.

Heart thudding in his chest in a frantic pattern, sweat beading and breath caught somewhere in his throat... he casts a look around desperately... Eyes straining in perfect darkness, they begin to conjure the images of gentle, rocking movement.

He squeezes his eyes shut and forces himself to breathe...]

It's close... just follow the wall...

[He steps carefully, blindly, forward.]
