[ at the same time, the second glider jumps as Scowl's knife whistles through the air-- there's an audible THUNK as it embeds itself somewhere on the hind portion-- ]
[ --but the snake lands at the entrance to the second, unimpeded passageway of the hallway, and slithers hastily on through, dragging a thin blood trail after it. ]
