She'd baked... ah, they were something like small apple pies, and promised to leave them for breakfast, but when we woke there was nothing there.

We went out into the street, and everyone was smiling and happy. They welcomed us, asked if we were travellers... I caught a basket of apples a little boy was carrying before it could tip, and his mother thanked us and offered to allow us to stay with her family for the night, because the nights in the desert are very cold.
