Then don't. I will never say that it's wrong to be angry over something like that. Coming back is a step, at the very least. It will be awkward, and I do hope, one day, you can outright say that to him though, and hopefully he'll understand. Just do that much, or maybe he'll do the same first. What's going on his mind to make him so thoughtless? Is it on purpose? A misunderstanding? Is anyone that emotionless? There has to be a talk eventually.
