I'm pretty vague on the details myself. We heard a Call. It was ... really strong. When we got there, there was a loom, and threads, and that one Judge that flickers in and out - then she talked to Surgeon, and ...

[r-rubbing his head]

... and then it... I guess and then we woke up, but... it felt like living a whole life. From before, from what Claude was remembering. Where he was Chrysos and we all lived in Cepheus. The sun going hotter and hotter, and everyone fleeing to come live in one huge city.

It... I dunno how long it lasted. Then we saw more threads, and... what I think was the first Game ever. Then we came back, and we were in the Arena again, and ... I think King killed Surgeon.

I don't think she'll be showing up again.

I don't know how. We woke up and- there were paw prints from something really big, and a dead spider. The loom was falling apart, too. King was the one who sent us home, and when everything first started happening he was ... outside, trying to get in, it felt like. He wanted to stop it from happening.

Of course. He is trying to protect us, to preserve us. ... then again, I would have said the same of the Surgeon.

Preserve us from what, though? When we saw the past- with Cepheus and the Core and the last days we spent there- that's all it was, wasn't it? So how could the past hurt anyone here?

There have been -- problems, in the past. Those who have gone insane. The records are someplace quite safe.

[... sort of absently reaching out to pet, in a way that bibliowls enjoy :|a]

How long was it? Between the city being built and now.

A very, very long time.

[petpetskritch]

In that time... has anyone checked? Is anything alive up there? Could anything alive have showed up there, in the time since we left?

I do not know for certain. But if it were possible to go back up there, I believe we would have, by now. Surely King would have known.

Maybe.

[leaaaning back a bit, still petting]

... It's just... it's the one thing he missed more than anything, from the day they secured the keystone to the day the memories stopped. The sky. The real sky, and the real wind, with the real clouds, and the sun and the moons. I think... Chioni missed that more than anything. It makes me kind of miss it too.

It was so ... big. So open. But... I guess it wouldn't look the same now.

Why did Surgeon show us that? It was so important to him that he died for it. I don't understand- do you?

So there must be a reason. A good reason. Something that- maybe it could help everyone. Blanks, Judges, whatever. And King didn't want it because...

[DRAWS A BLANK so to speak]

... because I don't know. Or maybe he had a reason but it was a bad reason... but he hasn't done anything that really would have hurt anyone ... the pillar-crazy seems to have gone away with that tapestry thing...

[... perches on the table]

I do not pretend to understand Surgeon's motives. I ... do not always understand King's, but I do trust him. Whatever he has done, it has been in the best interests of everyone's survival.
