Who: Everyone
Where: Corvus to Lynx territory
When: King’s Year 199, Early Summer
What:

[The dawn over the volcanic plains of Corvus after the great flash the night before holds a sight of wonder and oddity as such that none have ever seen before. Of the vents and flows of the still active volcano, the lava itself seems to have boiled itself to a fit, making high shows of reds, orange and yellows. New steam vents seem to open themselves with each shudder of the land, most even shaking the walls of Esharra in Lynx... Even the napalmanders seem to settle themselves on land, staring at the glowing rifts with a certain wariness...

But the true marker of change is in the firebirds themselves... They rise and jump as they always have, but each seems to be attempting to launch themselves high into the air, as if trying to reach the Old Woman themselves. They do not fall back into the molten rock, but when each fails in their desperate flight, shatter on the open ground.]

[sitting in a window well, staring out. NOT THE SAFEST SPOT with the ground shaking every so often, really]

...Like nature itself is trying to leave.

[Almost as if in answer, you feel a faint tremble under you as another firebird launches itself into the sky across the distant field, chasing the rising heat.]

...[watches. ROOTING FOR YOU, LITTLE BUDDY.]

[It almost seems to make it, before shuddering in the sky and as all firebirds do, turns black, hardening in the air.

The molten rock falls to the ground... and where it lands, the ground collapses into a new vent, by the distant glow in the land.]

[passing by, dressed in dusty travelling gear -- pausing nearby to watch the firebird with you.]

...An apt description.

[moving a bit closer to the window to watch as the firebird moves higher]

I just returned from carrying out His Majesty's most recent task for me. When the sky lit up last night, I chose to push on rather than wait out the rest of the night. My escort and I rode into Esharra not an hour ago.

[watching as the firebird begins to fall]

The firebirds are the least of it.
