Alright.

[does so! carefully, unsure how old the book is or what its condition is]

[about two hundred years old, but in surprisingly good condition. the pages are fragile but quite turnable. page seventeen is a long-winded description of the Lepus temple, with lurid descriptions of the market in front of it. Skylos' book has a sketch of a (rather stylized) brain in a jar; Rhodes' book has only text.]

Which is the later edition?

[sob]

...I would guess the book with only text. Because I don't think a copier would have the time or inclination to include the picture if their work was to make as many copies as they could.

Quite correct. This edition -- [indicates his own] -- is the third. The second did have attempts at picture copying, but the results were not good.

It would be difficult if you weren't an artist. It's really detailed.

Indeed. The process does operate in reverse at times. Only with particular texts, however. Are you familiar with illuminated manuscripts?

No, I am not. What are those?

Even as a Cephean, you are familiar with the Pyxian Wanderer and Finchbull's Odes, correct?

It is traditional for each great library to have its own copy of those works. They are placed in the center of the library for show, usually in the sanctum sanctorum of the Lorefather's shrine. As they are for display purposes, they are usually quite large and richly detailed.

And they would be illustrated?

Beautifully. Gold leaf is commonly used for decoration.

[:O]

Do any of the libraries here have one?

The Great Corehaven Library should. It is not in the Scribe's shrine, of course, as that no longer exists, but I believe it is still on display.

Just that I would like to see them too... I wasn't trying to say that your collection is inferior.
