Who: All, eventually
Where: Various
When: King's Year 198, early fall
What: A messenger approaches.

[A tall, gaunt man walks across the plains alone approaching a small gathering of Pyxis tribes, with little fear or hesitation. He seems to have appeared out of almost nowhere, and unphased by the pre-monsoon winds. He swathed in the black uniforms of an Ophiuchus priest and uniform is lined with red. Though his cloak is drawn over his face, you can see something of a tight line of his lips and his hands, when he speaks, are slow moving and expressive.

He stops just before the first tribesman approaching him.]

I seek the chieftain of all the tribes, and then the clan with the greatest speed and experience.

((OOC: ALL THE COUNTRIES will be visited to speak with a regent, king, leader or whatnot. If you don't have a player character who is suitable, feel free to use sabra_la_au to speak for them. If you're stumped and want us to whip something up or off screen it, let Nishi know and we'll work something out.))

Shit. That's just what we need.

"Gather your people." Where does he expect us to go?

[Scowls down at the ground before squatting and picking up a stick in her good hand. She starts drawing a sketchy map outline- of Orion, Cepheus, Pavo, and Vulpecula.]

...fine. Here. If we assume this Oracle isn't full of shit, we can't stay in Cepheus. Their cities are out in the open, and the refugees are on the outskirts, on the borders. We'll be prime targets, if it's an invasion.

[considers it]

It's easier to get cover in Orion, but we both know that's not going to stop anything that wants to attack. As for gathering, that's a lot harder. Moving people around between villages is a tough job at the best of times, and we don't live in those anymore.

Then we'll have to make some changes.

This- [She marks it on the map.] -is Mos Thorntier. It's due west of the Pavo border, in the thick of the jungle. The residents evacuated before the beastmen found them. It's remained undiscovered.

[nods]

I've been in that area. It's definitely a good location for people who don't want to be found. But, that might not last if we started ferrying a lot of people in that direction.

That's why we're not going to cut through Orion. If we tried to get that many people past the beastmen, we'd attract notice for certain. But if we leave Cepheus here- [Indicates a spot to the north.] -and bring them in from Pavo and Vulpecula, we'd stand a chance.

Something like that... you'd have to start it moving pretty soon, Alfaet. They didn't give us much idea of how quickly this strife's gonna hit.

We'll start today.

Consider your current employment extended.

...right. I'd just end up doing the same thing anyway, if it's going to be this big.

In the first group, we'll need to bring in any casters that have worked on large-scale wood-tech, and at least a few who know their way around a weapon. They'll take the Pavo route, to get them in faster, and establish wards to prepare for the arrival of the rest.

I know plenty of weapon users, but I'll leave casters up to someone else. That's not my area.

Speaking of the rest, we'll need to get word out to the south-west villages before anyone else, since they've got the most distance to cover.

I'll handle the casters, and I can arrange for someone with access to a glider to get word to the south-west villages.

Sounds good. What'll you tell them, though? Messages about the gods getting antsy over the future aren't exactly reassuring.

[Considers. :|a]

Then we'll leave out the part about the gods. We can say we got advance notice of some incoming trouble, imply that it was a tip off that there would be troops passing through the area and we'd better clear out.

Re: [Orion]
[info]mercykills

Well, that'd do the trick. We've got enough fucking strife of our own that we can pass off new stuff as old.

Once everyone's settled and the new wards are in place, and we've set aside stores of food, water, and weapons, we can let people know it was a tip off on a grander scale.

As long as we're vague about the source and what the actual warning entails initially, I'll manage something.

I don't think people'll care much if it means saving their skins.

If I'm going to be bouncing all over the country doing this, I need to resupply first. What are you planning to do now?

Make contact with a few people to spread the word, then head out myself. If I'm going to get the casters in place to set those wards, I don't have any time to spare.

Right, just take some time out along the way. Collapsing from exhaustion won't help any cause.
