Huh... That's definitely a good feint.

But... how does that get us the rest of it, or its location? They'd know we'd be watching out for it. They're playing really safe, too. It's assuming the actual pieces are important at all, too. If they deny knowing anything about it to begin with, then being caught trying to check on them would be more than just staying away.

But that's where this feint and the choosing of the right person to attempt the feint on comes into play. If we choose the right person, and they really are this concerned about the mural, they may panic. In a panic, people are known to lose their heads a bit. They lose caution and they act as fast as possible, cutting corners where they can.

They will want to get to the mural as soon as possible to possibly check of the compromise, confirm what they will probably tell themselves is a lie with their own eyes.

They could very well put up several deterrents of their own--feints and decoys and even fighters to stay behind and fight us or mislead us. But if there's enough of a panic, if we can incite that much of an immediate reaction, they won't have time to knock on every door to discuss things the way they have been doing. They will be clumsy and sloppy and all we have to do, is have people who are quick enough and stealthy enough to watch for the one person they will send to confirm all the pieces are where they should be. They only need the one person, and preferably someone with the memory and intelligence to know if anything has been disturbed besides what the earthquake may have caused.

We pick the right team...

[leans back against the wall, crossing his arms, while he listens]

Sounds like it could work. But with them going for the pillar right now... You're assuming this is even important enough to panic over.

Didn't Aeon just say that one team was felt threatened enough to kick him out? And the fact that they know they have King breathing down their necks, using us as his dogs to sniff out the pieces... all this on top of the stress of the events going on around them--will they have much time to think about it?

Either way, they may react, they may not. That's why it's called a feint, isn't it?

In case you didn't notice, it really doesn't take much of an excuse to kick us out. We are enemies.

But it sounds like it's worth a shot.

I was assuming that Aeon had been meeting with someone he knows personally.

... though you're right. Even with that, it probably wouldn't take much to kick him out.

In any case, if this is something to at least be attempted, it should be done as quickly as possible. Perhaps even when our good colored blanks are attempting to sleep after such a stressful day.

From their point of view? Everything.

You said the mural and Surgeon's game involved Sabra of the past?

What about from our point of view? How much do we not know?

That's what Aeon said a Lynx told him, yeah.

I suspect we know even less than the colored blanks do.

But if the mural really is connected to that game... and King is really shutting down on Surgeon, then it's easy to assume that it's not a history that threatens the blanks so much, but threatens King himself.

In which case, our position is to protect King from those threats. For all we know, Surgeon has been attempting to use the colored blanks and this past history to manipulate blanks into over throwing King.

But that's if you want to get drastic about theories.

Mostly, I think that the blanks are scared for their own well-being.

[wry look]

It's King we're talking about. He's the one that's making all our wishes come true. And they spend so much energy on the games and just living day to day, where would they even find room for a conspiracy? And they've hated Surgeon. I don't know, a theory like that sounds pretty wild.

And suicidal.

You're assuming that they understood what they were getting themselves into. And you're also assuming that Surgeon did more than just run a game that directly involved them.

The fact that they live their daily lives in these caves with those games is one thing. The fact that there have been others prior to this, piques the interest and makes one wonder what may have happened with the last group. Could it happen to this group? Has there even been a previous group?

And the biggest question: What do the Judges want from us besides these games? Is that all they want? This is something I've actually had a discussion with a Cepheus before. They're very curious about their gods.

Cepheus is a good team.

I don't know what they're getting into, but I do know that they know what King can do. I know they're afraid of him, I've pretty much seen it, over and over. And I know King's power. That's what I meant.

The "previous group" thing-- that's what I'm wondering. Those plain uniforms our new guys arrived in - we've never worn anything like that, but the Blanks used to. No bracer, either. And the boss said they were two of the most tenacious, meaning they'd survived something.

It's all very curious. And here we are, caught in the position of being like the colored black but left out because we serve the Judges. For all we know, we could be in just as much danger.

But. As you said before, we're all here for a reason and all of this, the lack of the memories, the games, the intrigue... is making quite a number of them lose sight of that goal. Especially the older ones who have seen people come and go.

I sometimes wonder if they can even separate themselves from the identity they've made for themselves here.

You think? That's pretty literal though. It'd be pretty normal for a lot of them to get wrapped up in what's in front of them. That's just how people are, you know?

Mm, and the people who're here, especially.

But even so... there is a difference between being interested and even investigating into what's in front of them... and becoming part of the very thing that's in front of them.

Of course. We're no different than they are.

... though I will be entirely disappointed in my old self if my interests have no resemblence to that me's.
