... Mm. I can't even ... we've only lost one teammate since I arrived here before him, and that was hard enough.

He doesn't have much. And what he has, he holds onto as if it's all he's got.

I won't be here to balance that any more.

That guy—Scowl? Said he picked Mikaila so no one else would be involved.

Anyone else would have been better. Arsine loves her. I do too. But we're used to this, and her waking up okay is good enough for me.

I stopped what I could. But if it goes farther than this, the easiest way for Arsine to hurt Scowl the way he was hurt is through you.

[Shakes his head again]

I can do my best to make sure that Hydra doesn't target or antagonize Lepus in the future, but to be honest ... my best may not be enough. When it comes to negotiating, my opinion counts for the least within Hydra. In the last game we nearly came to blows over the decision whether to hurt someone or not, and in the end Sparta just knocked me out. Not only that, but ... Scowl's nature makes it intensely difficult for myself-- or for anyone, really-- to defend any team that he considers an enemy, because he takes that personally. He sees it as an affront, or that I must like that person he hates more than I like him, even though ... that's not the case at all.

So ... I don't know what I can do. I appreciate the ... warning? But it seems like Arsine's already made up his mind to hurt us anyway.

It's not even us he hates. We're just a target for his rage and grief.

[shakes his head, and . . . after a pause, ruffles Albert's hair.]

That's why it's an apology. Enough of you are decent people to deserve better than this.

... It's not your fault.

But ... thank you. Honestly, I'm more worried about the fall-out it'll cause more than anything else. I think we'd almost ... gotten to a point where our older members were content to just leave Lepus alone. But if it escalates again-- and it will, I think-- it'll be worse than before. Because it'll become so personal this time, it'll turn into some ... stupid, messed-up never-ending cycle of revenge against one another. I'm worried that other teams and other people will choose sides and become caught up in it. People who originally had nothing to do with the whole situation, who don't even remember how it started, may get hurt ... that's what I'm most worried about. Because how do you control that sort of thing? You can't.

I don't want ... Lepus to be hurt by this, any more than I want Hydra to be hurt either.

It's not going to end this time. Before last night, we thought it was over. It's not our grudge that's kept this alive — we never had one.

Is this even what your partner wants?

[Headshake again] I'm sure it's not. But he's-- more like the odd one out, on Vulpecula, like I am on Hydra ...

But-- even if Hydra were to call it quits right this second, I don't think Lepus will. I feel so powerless ...

Not Lepus. Arsine.

We're not just one person. Our team isn't like yours; none of us rule the others. Force us to choose, and we'll follow the person who feels strongest about it, because it's their feelings at stake. But that person isn't always the same.

[Glances at where Albert's guards would be, if the wall of feathers weren't blocking the way.]

Should've held him up against that judge's statue until he realized all he wanted to talk to was his own reflection.

Your leader.

In my memories or here, there's only two worth the regard he's asked of us. One is Surgeon; we bear his mark, and holds our feality. The other is the saviour of my world — the Wing Goddess of legend, incarnate into mortal flesh.

The rest of Lepus doesn't have any more. Most less. Whatever live he's led to make supplication an apology won't change that to us, his demands are no more than an insult from a petty slave owner affronted that his property's been hurt, without caring at all for what was done for the person themselves.

He's Dryden and Allen's their kind, not mine. If it's talking, they'd have a better chance.

The Beast Clans lead simpler lives. Most have little use for politics.
