Mm. Corvus and Lynx were both wiped out—everyone of them, save me, Grenade, and Scar. Albert chose to target them out of a sense of vengeance, which he later found out was at least slightly misplaced. Nonetheless, we forgave him for it, but he wasn't capable of forgiving himself. He's been completely emotionally a wreck since then.
It wasn't about . . . whether or not Albert could take it, or whether he'd forgive them. I know Night well enough to know that he never expects forgiveness from anybody—if anything, he did this knowing he would probably be hated for it, but if all of his choices were going to be horrible in some way, somebody he cared about might get some small shard of good out of it. Which would be that Albert could face Corvus and Lynx again after doing something he felt was unforgivable.
[. . . pause]
That was something between Night and Albert. They're closer than even I knew, and more similar. Nonetheless . . . I also understand your perspective, because even though I respect Night deeply, I know how furious I'd be if anybody touched him.
