Who: Emil, Hakuba, whoever
Where: By the Orion dorms
When: Day 165, afternoon
What: Attempting to teach teammate self-defense

[there are two blanks in blinding Orion yellow, one holding on to a wooden staff, and the other correcting the first's grip]

No, um, more like this. That should help. . . Um, unless it's too heavy for you! It's not too heavy, is it?

[though, it sounds like the second one doesn't really sound like he has much confidence in the subject. shouldn't a teacher know what they're doing?]

[headtilt]

Um, you want to try?

I could probably defend . . . and you could show him how to attack . . .?

Would that even help?

I don't know. . . he doesn't even really want to learn, but I managed to convince him he should at least know how to defend, if someone ever does attack him in a game. But if he doesn't mind . . . maybe?

If I can help, I will.

Thanks. I'll ask if he'd prefer that.

. . . and you are doing a good job. I think it must be hard to learn . . .

Yeah. I actually remember Richter trying to teach me before I knew how but. . . when I learned, it wasn't anything to do with lessons. I just. . . knew, when I didn't before. Learning normally seems a lot harder.

Oh.

[ looks down at her hand. ]

It must have been hard at some time.

. . . actually, I think Hakuba's doing a lot better than I was when I had Richter trying to teach me. I just kind of . . . um, cowered behind my sword. I was really awful at it.

You're not very scary.

[laughs, a little]

I hope not. Though it was less because of Richter that I was scared, and more the monsters. . . They were small and pretty harmless though, but I was still really scared.

Monsters . . . [ pause for thinking. ] I think that would be scary even if they were small . . . because it's new and you were still learning?

Yeah. At least I'm not trying to teach Hakuba by taking him into battle and expecting him to follow instructions like that. . .

. . . I think he'd hurt himself.

Do you think he'd be any good at throwing something . . .?

Maybe? I can't use projectiles, so you could probably tell better than I could, you know what to look for more.

I don't know . . . a lot about how it works. I have to think about it backwards to understand it.

Maybe we could check how good his aim is. Just throwing rocks to test might work.

Yeah. And he really only needs to get good enough to defend himself long enough for one of the rest of us to show up to help, he doesn't really need to get great at it.
