Who: Emil, Hakuba, whoever
Where: By the Orion dorms
When: Day 165, afternoon
What: Attempting to teach teammate self-defense

[there are two blanks in blinding Orion yellow, one holding on to a wooden staff, and the other correcting the first's grip]

No, um, more like this. That should help. . . Um, unless it's too heavy for you! It's not too heavy, is it?

[though, it sounds like the second one doesn't really sound like he has much confidence in the subject. shouldn't a teacher know what they're doing?]

[trying to teach Monty to knock away his staff to the side to get the opponent's aim off-target, when defending. not that difficult of a concept]

Huh? Um. . . am I doing something wrong?

[ shakes her head. ]

You're doing good. But . . . footing . . .

[tilts his head]

Oh, right. . . That's important too, isn't it. I forgot.

[ nods, slowly. ]

It's easy not to think about . . . I don't think about it. When . . .

When it comes naturally. . . it's hard to put into words. I don't really think about it either.

[ nods again ]

It's difficult to explain.

It'd be easier to just demonstrate, but. . . I don't know if he can follow and understand like that. Not that trying with words is working that well, either.

[headtilt]

Um, you want to try?

I could probably defend . . . and you could show him how to attack . . .?

Would that even help?

I don't know. . . he doesn't even really want to learn, but I managed to convince him he should at least know how to defend, if someone ever does attack him in a game. But if he doesn't mind . . . maybe?

. . . and you are doing a good job. I think it must be hard to learn . . .

[nods]

Yeah. I actually remember Richter trying to teach me before I knew how but. . . when I learned, it wasn't anything to do with lessons. I just. . . knew, when I didn't before. Learning normally seems a lot harder.

. . . actually, I think Hakuba's doing a lot better than I was when I had Richter trying to teach me. I just kind of . . . um, cowered behind my sword. I was really awful at it.

[laughs, a little]

I hope not. Though it was less because of Richter that I was scared, and more the monsters. . . They were small and pretty harmless though, but I was still really scared.

Monsters . . . [ pause for thinking. ] I think that would be scary even if they were small . . . because it's new and you were still learning?
