Who: Corvus, Lynx, anyone else
Where: Outside the Corvus dorm, in the common area
When: Day 150, late afternoon
What: Intro post

[Speaking of skinny boy(?)s wandering around outside the Corvus/Lynx area -- a fairly tall and unhealthily-thin young man has exited the Corvus dorms and is looking around in some confusion. He looks very pale -- especially in brilliantly-coloured Corvus uniform -- and not very healthy. Visible on his bare neck is a long scar along his neck, as if cut with a knife some years ago, and his bare hands are covered in strange black smoky patches.

He looks quite lost, and more wary to see others than relieved]

...Good evening...?

Nice to meet you Night. [Notices the black on your hands.]

Does that hurt at all?

...it aches. A little. [folds them together as if to cover it]

Hmm, tell someone if it gets worse, all right. I'll see if there's anyone who might be able to do anything for it.

This isn't normal. Is it?

I haven't seen it on anyone else.

But we're not sure what 'normal' really is. It might be a really common thing back home and just isn't for the people who end up here.

But if it aches, it's better to see if anyone can do a check up on it to make sure it doesn't get worse or anything if we can.

[nods] I don't... intend to show up and be a handicap to Corvus. It's nothing that will stop me.

It's not a handicap. A little aching isn't a disadvantage in itself. I'd just like to make sure it doesn't become a problem for you.

[...to say the other stuff he's noticed or not to.]

Mm. Yeah. Letting it become something like that wouldn't be good either.

[Better to say it instead of it biting them in the butt later?]

Yeah. But I'm sure someone can do something for it.

...[shrugs] Nothing too detrimental. My hearing isn't good. Please don't discuss that outside of our two teams.

I'm not. Does things just sound muffled or quiet?

I can't hear parts of sentences, usually. Sometimes it's ... [gestures] loudly quiet. Other times it's muffled. Sometimes it's fine.

Loudly quiet? Like....you don't hear any sounds at all so it's eerie?

Though for it to switch like that....is that normal?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]crossboundaries
2010-07-23 04:40 am UTC (link)
Yes.

I don't know if it's normal or not, to switch. But normally I can hear parts, with the other parts muffled to silent. The other two, fine and loudly quiet, they're rare. Not often.

If we could get paper, we could write down something and see what words you're not hearing.

If you like. I haven't noticed a pattern. It feels more like picking bits out through the mess.

If we do this, should I not read lips while listening?

You means the words you hear or the ones you don't?

...that might be helpful either way. Can you read lips?

[info]crossboundaries

The words I hear I'm ...figuring out? Finding in the mess? I don't know what to say.

Yes. I 'hear' more if I'm watching people's lips.

I think I get it. So instead of things dropping out, it's more like finding what's clear...

[Nods.] Well, that's good, at least.
