Who: Corvus, Lynx, anyone else
Where: Outside the Corvus dorm, in the common area
When: Day 150, late afternoon
What: Intro post

[Speaking of skinny boy(?)s wandering around outside the Corvus/Lynx area -- a fairly tall and unhealthily-thin young man has exited the Corvus dorms and is looking around in some confusion. He looks very pale -- especially in brilliantly-coloured Corvus uniform -- and not very healthy. Visible on his bare neck is a long scar along his neck, as if cut with a knife some years ago, and his bare hands are covered in strange black smoky patches.

He looks quite lost, and more wary to see others than relieved]

...Good evening...?

Anyway, I'll tell you about that rule after we get some food in you.

... yeah, you honestly don't look it. We could probably try trading or doing missions with the black team for some stuff to help you out.

I don't intend to be a burden to the team. Or to get us in trouble. I'll be okay. I don't have to be comfortable to function.

Yeah, but I'd rather you be more than just barely functional. We'll have you work for your share to keep you healthy, man.

Anyway... about those rules.

Scowl went over the basics with you and stopped there mostly because we had a big bitchout session when he went on telling the new kind of Lynx--Royal--about it. Kinda glad to hear he's at least not going to shove information at news kids like that.

Anyway. [settingly so he's leaning forward, elbows on the table] Games... can get really bad. You've probably heard mention of it. Killings... torturing... judges will put us in situations where we have to choose who to kill, who to keep alive, and sometimes even how it's done. There's nothing we can do about it. We get memories if we win the games. We might lose a lot more by playing them, but we can also lose even more than that if we refuse to play the games.

Don't get me wrong, not all games are bad. In fact, only one of the four games I've been in was real bad. But when the judges make the games bad, they're not after just one or a few teams--they're pretty much targeting all of us.

With those rules with the sharing with other teams and visiting the Pillar and all that--those are things that people probably get singled out and punished for. Small stuff. That rule with the games, though... you break it, your entire team can suffer the punishment. Not only your team, but then you have your partner team and any friends you might make on other teams suffer by watching you and yours suffer.

So whatever you do, even if you have an inkling of a doubt or if you know one of us will feel worse off for it.... you cannot allow Corvus to throw a game. No purposefully losing it, no tossing in the towel, no setting ourselves up to take the fall for someone else. Dagger, Hope, and I--first three on this team... we had to watch the dark green team Lacerta go through a punishment like that and trust me, it ain't pretty. We were supposed to help them get out of that alive, and we couldn't. They drowned, they burned, and they died. And then the judges who ran the game couldn't revive them immediately afterwards like normal. Hell, I can sometimes still smell it.

I don't want it happening to us--or even Lynx if we can help it. Understand?

[nods, looking down at his hands briefly, twining them together... then back up at Dean as he speaks, voice soft] But why would we? Because what we'd be forced to do in the game would be so severe we'd be inclined to throw it?

Things happen. This place will probably do a lot to mess up in the head--our memories may or may not help with that. Anything can happen, but I'm not taking any chances here.
