Who: ANYONE
Where: Along one of those high ridges around the Lacanis dorms.
When: Day 149, morning
What: Experimenting.

[And there's a tiny standing on one of those high altitude ridges, right at the edge, looking down. Though...something might be odd.

That's certainly Lacerta's green. But the maid outfit has the colors switched for their usual tiny. Not to mention the white hair. Or green eyes. Skin is kind of darker or maybe that's just the slight glow around her making her look darker? And what's that little logo on the apron? Weird.

Of course, that might not be a concern as she JUMPS OFF THE RIDGE. And no, that is NOT a safe falling height.]

At that time, we didn't bear them any particular ill-will...well, most of us didn't. We had a few people on the team who were pretty angry, but we'd have had to be angry at practically everyone, if we'd been angry at anyone, so most of us thought it was better to blame the Judge. I started talking to Geddoe on occasion...he had an idea to make a kind of formal agreement, that teams who accepted it would help each other when they could and not play harshly against each other in the Games unless they had to. I thought it was a good idea, but events seem to have proven otherwise.

I'm going to sidetrack a little, because there's more history before we get to the next part.

Mm, yeah... I'd like to see something like that, but it only works when people will agree...

That's fine. I'm asking you because I want to understand as much of this as I can.

*nods*

A while before the game, we got a new teammate; Lightning was his name. He was a good teammate, and a good friend, and a battlemage who could transform into a shape better suited for fighting. The problem is, for a while we couldn't feed him -- he'd eat and eat, and never get full.

During Game Master's game, we worked out what the problem was. He killed one of the raptors, and it helped the hunger when nothing else would. But the raptors are sentient, intelligent creatures. And nothing else we use for food claims that distinction.

We went north every few days to hunt them. They're smart, pack hunters; most teams are afraid of them. But we didn't have another choice that we could accept, so Lightning contained his hunger and we managed to barely keep him from starving to death.

Then Storyteller ran a game.

She altered some players' minds, and gave them the ability to transform into a form more suited for battle, and forced them to subsist on sentient flesh. As you can imagine, it was a bit familiar. But it seems that of the people changed, only Orion managed to resist completely, though some other teams turned on their fellow 'wolves' rather than kill innocents.

And some of them didn't, and we were the ones they killed. Canis was the only team who had no players left due solely to the 'wolves'. And Mitani was one of the players. Hollow killed him, out of mercy, in a way; another team had determined that he would die and her knife was kinder than their teeth. At the time, though, I was pretty angry.

Mm. I can understand that... I don't have any teammates who are younger than me, but it worries me that there's kids around here, and it's bad enough watching something happen to the ones who aren't on my team... Most people would be angry over that.

*nods* And after the last game...it was hard not to see it as the same thing happening again, you know? Maybe it's not fair or worthy, but it wasn't something I can deny feeling.

I didn't take vengeance or anything, though I probably scared her a little. Geddoe came to me afterward, and...well. I told him that after two killing games where Delphinus had hit Canis without provocation, the alliance he was proposing looked less and less attractive. So he gave me his personal word that it wouldn't happen again; that he'd stop it if he had to.

The situation never came up. But even making the offer...I took his word, and refused offers of reparation, and kept the teammates that were angry from doing anything rash.

Someone's probably already told you about Trickster's game, how some of us denied him any pleasure in torturing the people he chose. After that, Canis got memories. And Lightning...

...he went mad from his. Completely berserk, with nothing in his mind but hunger. Jim Kirk was standing near him, and tried to use some kind of hand-to-hand technique...he lost an arm, and it was only the fact that Masamune and I were right there that saved his life. We held Lightning for a few moments, but he broke free, and his war form is fast -- he outdistanced us and lost us in the tunnels.

I'll tell you later; it's a happier story, at least to an extent.

*nods, clearly remembering, and not happily*

We split up, looking for him, trying to track him down. There was a winner's ceremony at the time, and I went there to head him off for a bit, but thank heaven, he didn't hear the call. We caught up with him near your dorms...but we were just barely too late, and he'd taken Geddoe down.

Once he was...finished...he changed back. Didn't remember a thing, other than that some of the hunger had abated. We called the appropriate Judge, of course, and the three of us there paid the price ourselves. Zero...he went a little crazy himself, I think; Link had to pull him off Lightning. He's never since stopped hating us.

One of the black team took him away after that. The next thing we knew, he was in the Pillar.

It's fine. You should know, and I'm grateful you're listening to me about it. We called him as soon as we got there and realized there was no hope of ordinary revival...which was basically as soon as we arrived.

He takes vitality as his price...for me, that manifested as weakness and muscle cramps, bad enough I couldn't walk for a day or two. Masamune lost his hearing, and the joints of Bones' hands swelled until he couldn't use them.

There was something that Shiki mentioned when she told me about this... Geddoe didn't when I talked to him. I'd like to know what you know about it, if anything. And I'm sorry to keep making you remember things like this... she said Geddoe was the second person Lightning ate.

...he's the only one who knows that for sure. The circumstances look bad for him, but he kept it hidden from everyone, even us. Honestly, he probably did it, but the first thing any of us heard of it was when someone accused him of it...let me explain the circumstances.

When Geddoe woke back up, I made him the same offer he made me after Storyteller's game. He accepted, and more than that, he wanted to make the negotiation a big public event, so that people could see things being worked out between us. It...didn't work out like he'd hoped. A few people started applauding when I told Link and Geddoe that Lightning was gone to the Pillar, and when people confronted them, they made that accusation to justify themselves.
