There's no offense to be taken.

If it's something between you and Delphinus, it's between you.

That's the way it ended up, so...

. . . Geddoe liked to talk about alliances and treaties. But those . . . they don't survive the games. Or what happens outside them, either.

. . . friends can forgive what allies can't. I think . . . it would have been different, if he could have understood that.

Forgiveness, huh?

*looks around at all the hostility*

I guess it's pretty clear we aren't wanted around here. Sorry to trouble you.

Jace . . .

I know it's between you and Delphinus. And that . . . you don't have to want to fix things, if you don't want to. But . . . they're my partner team. And if you do . . .

. . . teams and machines, they're a little the same. Parts work best together when they balance . . . when they're equal. A strong part that can do everything, that wants to, too . . . it's not always the best, if the other parts don't match.

Shiki and Soujirou and Zero don't match. If you want to help, you need to ask, first. It's hard, because everyone's hurt, and angry too. But just being a person, rather than being someone who comes to fix things . . . someone who asks, "Some rocks fell, would you like us to use those to fulfil our promise, or should we wait until later?" rather than telling them that's what you're doing, regardless of what they think, or how they feel . . .

. . . that might help, a bit more. If you want to.

Ahh . . . sorry. That . . . it's probably . . . saying too much, something like that, so . . . mm.

...haaah. Well, it's something to think about, and I'm grateful you said it. But maybe it's not the right time, right now.

But I would like to say one thing. If they want me to come to them the way you suggest, maybe they could start by treating me that way, and not like a monster who's out to hurt them. I'm saying "I'm here to fix things" because they're saying "you're coming to hurt us" and "you're insulting us" before I can say anything. Maybe my approach isn't right -- evidence says that it isn't -- but for something to be fixed, both sides have to want it, don't they?

They do. That's why it's only something to try if you want to. And . . . it really is okay, if you don't.

One side . . . one part isn't more at fault than the other. Both don't work. It's just that . . . it doesn't really help, does it? If I say 'this is what they need to do'. The only part you can change is your own.

I don't know. I can fix machines. People . . . I can't help people at all.

I don't know anything about machines, and for all I know about the mind, I'm not that good at people sometimes. But people are hard to help, that way. A machine's parts stay the same; people change. But we can try, too, in ways that parts can't.

Aah, I understand that. But...no offense, but the way you said it sounded to me like my 'part' was the only one with a problem. And it does help, to acknowledge that everyone has to try, not just the person you're talking to. My part's the only part I can fix, that's true, but if both sides are having problems, it helps to know that the other part has a chance of being fixed, too. That I won't fix mine just to grind against the rough spots of the other.

A little. They change. They have their own voices, too. But that isn't important for this.

. . . good luck. Either way . . . it will take a lot of time, for things to go back to how they were.
