Who: You know, that is a very good question!
Where: Around the Lepus area.
When: Day 80, mid morning.
What: Another hapless soul joins the fray.

[He has just exited the bedroom and is paused just inside the main room. He doesn't seem overly upset or angry but very, very confused. He's holding the telescope memory thing in his hand and shakes it every once in a while just to see if anything will happen.]

It works better if you watch it, you know.

[He is clearly not convinced of that since watching it only made him more confused.]

Uh, yeah. Thanks.

Lepus, huh? I know a guy on your team.

Charlie Crews. Cygnus.

[The strange words don't garner anything more than an eyebrow raise but hey, introductions! Now he's on familiar territory. He shuffles the telescope memory thing to his left hand and extends the right to Charlie.]

Hey, Charlie. I'm--

[a pause, then a weak smile.]

-- a bit lost, I think.

[raises an eyebrow]

Just woke up, don't remember anything, no name, feeling very confused? Tell me if any of that sounds right.

Four for four, dude.

So does this happen a lot? I mean, it's gotta since you've got the speech prepared.

[hooo boy. gesturing you over to a rock.]

...pretty regularly, actually, but I've been here since day 4. So, I'm guessing you watched the tube and read the sign in your common room. Which means you have questions. Where do you want me to start?

[sits down cross legged]

Uh, the beginning. I guess?

[way to be non specific there! don't worry, he'll stop you when what's left of his mind starts spinning]

[luckily, Charlie has learned the art of the high points.]

80 days ago, the first four teams woke up in the North Block. A day later, they had the first game. There are games pretty regularly. And yeah, that's how we get our memories back. The rest of the time, most of us find food, because they only give us grain, milk and jerky.

[nods determinedly]

Okay. Sounds simple enough. We play games and get memories.

When's the next one? Bring it on.

The Judges are special. You have to be careful around all of them, but the three to watch out for first are King, Trickster, and Surgeon. King's games are never what they seem, Trickster is out to kill, and Surgeon's games have penalties for the losers.

Luckily, we can come back here, but it's still extremely unpleasant to die, to say the least.

Other judges to watch out for are Angel: she'll keep whatever is left with her; Gambler: he likes cheaters; and Beauty: she likes to teach lessons.

Different judges, different rules. Got it.

I'm gonna guess they're not the impartial type.

Actually, other then Gambler, they like it if you follow their rules.

From game to game? It's different. Can't tell you. I've been in games where I've had to find my way out of a maze. And I've been in games where I was supposed to take part of a story. And once, I was even the game.

You were the game?

There's a judge that does nothing but laying the hearts and minds of someone open for people to solve. People went into my head and everything. I was asleep the whole time.

You mean metaphorically, right?

My first memory here was being shot in the chest. Someone got shot in the same place during that game, in my heart. They're going to have the same scar I have.

Is that real?

First of all, "why do WE put up with that" would be the better question, because you're now a part of the place too. Secondly, because many judges, now that we're here don't give us much of a choice. Thirdly...you're not even a little bit curious about who you were? At all?
