Twin-sized Bed
Who: Autumn and Mazie
When: Morning
Where: Autumn’s room
Mazie didn’t want to be out there anymore. She needed to get herself back upstairs, away from a bloodstained courtyard and the image of Caroline falling from the top of the building. She was making this up, she had no idea how Caroline had actually fallen, but it was surprisingly easy to imagine it and that was starting to freak Mazie out a little.
She barely managed to remind herself to go back to her room first before going to Autumn’s. Luckily she’d gotten most of the gift done and she honestly didn’t have it in her to sit in her room and craft some more of it when it looked nice to Mazie’s eyes now and she really wanted to be in Autumn’s room more. Taking the small bouquet of paper flowers, tied with a little ribbon around the fake paper stems, Mazie headed down the hall and knocked on Autumn’s door with a hand that was a little shakier than normal. “Autumn? Are you awake?”
Autumn looked up, then went to answer the door, really wanting Mazie there right now. She'd seen the dead body, and she was feeling even more vulnerable than usual. Seemed to be a running theme. When she opened up the door, and saw the blonde, she immediately hugged her. "I'm glad you're here." she murmured in against her neck.
Mazie was instantly thankful that right now, things didn't feel off like they had yesterday. Sure, Autumn had just opened the door, but they were embracing and for whatever reason, Mazie was kind of glad they could have this moment here. Wrapping her arms around Autumn, she closed her eyes and nodded a little, trying to figure out how to tell sweet, kind Autumn that someone had fallen to their death here, especially after the major fuckery that was all of yesterday. "I'm glad you're ok," She settled on for the opener, sure it wasn't what she was supposed to say but knowing it was all she could for the moment.
She pulled back from the hug just a little to try and look at Autumn. "…So…this morning, Caroline…she fell. They think she was trying to escape and she fell and…I think she's not with us anymore." Hell, when did she start saying stuff like this? Not with us anymore? She'd always thought it was a little lame to not call death 'death' but now, faced with it, maybe laying it all out on the line like that seemed more insensitive than she'd imagined before. Or maybe she just felt that if someone died here, they deserved a little more than 'hey, she's dead now'.
"I saw." Autumn said gravely, tugging Mazie into her room. "I don't know what happened, I just...there was the commotion, and I stepped out, and saw. Maybe we should have a service for her...though I hadn't even met her. I feel bad about that." she admitted, sighing. She tugged her fingers through her hair, and wondered where her smile had gone. It seemed entirely missing in the past two days. It wasn't like her at all.
"You saw?" Hell, that was rough to hear. She didn't know if Autumn had seen the act happen or if she had seen the aftermath, but either way Mazie really had been hoping that she hadn't seen any of it. "I'm sorry," She said instantly, though she didn't know why she was really. Maybe just that she hadn't been there for Autumn when this had happened, not that she'd thought this was going to happen.
Closing the door behind her, she turned to Autumn and put a hand on her shoulder before nudging her head towards the bed. Right now, it seemed like maybe the only thing that was going to make sense was being with Autumn, safe and covered in blankets. She still had her paper flowers in her hand though she didn't know how to bring them up during a conversation about Caroline. "I didn't know her either…and I kind of hate that I didn't. Which is strange for me, I'm not usually like that." Sitting down on the edge of Autumn's bed, she nodded. "I think we should. Think they've got her in the infirmary or whatever they're calling it…and I haven't requested anything from The Overlords yet but I think I might this time. I want her to get back to her family…I'm not even sure she had someone but I want that for her, if she does."
Autumn went to the bed, and made room on it for Mazie as well, tugging on her hand to get her closer. "She should definitely be returned to her family." she agreed. She did see the flowers then, and that was what found her smile. It was light, but present. "Are those for me?" she asked.
Looking back at Autumn then down at the cyclical paper flowers, Mazie nodded. "Yeah, I figured…we had a kind of strange day yesterday. I wanted to request you some flowers but I thought you might like these and they won't ever get gross like live flowers do sometimes," She said, handing over the bright pink and orange bundle with a little smile of her own. Well it was that logic plus the fact that Mazie was kind of certain that The Overlords weren't too fond of her right now. Though maybe they had more to deal with at this current moment than whether they liked her or not. "Do you like them?"
Autumn brought them close, and smiled more genuinely. "I love them." she told Mazie, purely honest. She would treasure them, even. That she knew. She leaned forward, and tugged Mazie closer by the collar, to give her a soft kiss. "Best flowers I've ever gotten." she told her, meaning that too.
That was great. Really great. That filled Mazie with a warmth that this morning and yesterday had sort of taken from her. Smiling again, she reached for Autumn and adventurously pulled her back into another kiss, not going much harder than Autumn had. Even now, even with things starting to feel a little better, she didn't want to push it. "I'm glad. They're the only flowers I know how to make so…you might get more of the same kind later but they'll be in different colors next time." Settling in closer, Mazie rested her head on Autumn's shoulder. "Just…want to make sure you're ok. Or..hell, as ok as any of us can be right now, I guess."
Giggling a little into the kiss, Autumn returned it, putting her arms around Mazie's neck, her free hand burying in her hair. She gave an affectionate nuzzle to her nose as she spoke. She too was feeling a little twist in her stomach ebbing a little. "I'm...I've been better. I think we all have. But I'm okay. I'm still worried about you. About everyone. But..." she exhaled, and hugged Mazie again. "I'm better now that you're here." she said. Pausing, she added. "I talked to Brady. He was actually...very nice. I think we both look at each other differently now."
Yup, she could stay here like this forever and be just fine with it. Behind the door, safely tucked in Autumn's room, right in her arms was where Mazie wanted to be from now on. She listened, letting herself curl closer to Autumn as she did. Brady. Just another thing to add to the list of the not-great experiences this place was throwing them. "Saw him this morning for a quick second but I didn't stick around. What'd he say to you?"
"...everything?" Autumn suggested. "We had a really, really long talk. He told me about his life, his family, his past. I told him about mine. I think he's kinda...well. Protective of me, now. He promised he'd make sure no one else ever hurt me." she added. Which she was hoping would make Mazie feel better.
Mazie leaned her head on Autumn's shoulder again. "Far cry from before…" She murmured, trying to figure out how she felt about this. She still wasn't huge fan of Brady, but Autumn was saying he wanted to protect her now. She just wasn't sure she was buying it. "I promised to be cordial with him…but I'm not gonna believe it until I see it. I don't like him much and while I'm not gonna go be hostile to him, I just don't trust him enough to not be on edge around him, especially when you're around."
"Well, there was the fight out in the courtyard, he left to go tend to that. He had me stay behind because he didn't want me anywhere near the fighting." Autumn said, starting to absently run her fingers through Mazie's hair. "But I get you're protective, and I appreciate that too." she told her warmly, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Well that was a step in the right direction, she guessed, but she still wasn’t Brady’s number one fan and she wasn’t sure she would ever be. She smiled a little at Autumn’s touches, thinking that she could talk about Brady all day as long as Autumn did this at the same time. “It’s just hard to get the image out of my head, of what he did to you. It’s hard for me to trust that he won’t do that again sometime. But I appreciate that he was protective and I’m ok with being cordial to him. There’s no need for me to outwardly hate him if he’s not doing anything to hurt you.” She closed her eyes a little. “So...The Man gave me a laptop yesterday. Starting to wonder if they ever really want me to leave this room? Because giving me a laptop certainly isn’t gonna make me wanna go anywhere else,” She said with a small smile.
Autumn smiled at that. "Well, I know I'm happy with the idea of you not leaving this room." she told her, voice warm and affectionate. "What're you going to do with it first?" she asked. "Set it up here, and tweak til your heart's content?" she asked, smiling at the thought. Really, she was pleased with the idea that Mazie would have even less excuse to head back to her own room. She liked having her there, especially with all the craziness going on.
She turned her head up a little to look at Autumn with another soft smile on her lips. It was great, really relieving, to hear that Autumn was ok with her setting up her laptop in here and just going to town. “Pretty soon we’ll be staying most nights in this room. You should come stay in mine too, get a change of scenery sometime.” She said. “I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with the laptop yet. I really don’t know why they gave me a laptop but it’ll definitely make keeping tabs on...things...easier,” She said, trying to hint at the fact that she could read the private journals without the administration knowing yet. And it meant she could keep her eyes on the anonymous posting more consistently. “And then again, I also might just play Minesweeper on it,” She joked. “Did they give you anything?”
Laughing, Autumn gave Mazie another little nuzzle. "I never did get the hang of Minesweeper." she admitted. "And I did get something." she added. "Want to smell pretty?" she asked, pulling back. She walked over to the bathroom, heading inside and she popped back a moment later with a perfume bottle she brandished with a flourish. "They gave me a bottle of perfume. I loved this stuff."
Mazie watched Autumn head to get her present, smiling a little as she took a moment to realize how damn lucky she was. She wasn't dead, she hadn't spent yesterday in the stocks, and she had Autumn to come back to. "I'll smell pretty if you want me to. Pretty sure you're the only reason I smell decent most of the time anyway," She sat up a little, looking at the bottle to try and place it. "That's..way too fancy for me to even know what it is. If you can't buy it in the perfume section of a Wal-mart or a K-mart, I've never seen it. What's it smell like?"
"Chanel No.5. parfum." Autumn said with a sly smile. She did give the bottle a little spritz, twirling in the mist, then she breezed back to Mazie, getting in close. "Like it?" she asked, knowing a lot of her clients had appreciated it. She'd had quite the array of different scents back home, often applying different ones strictly depending on the client. It was the little details.
The perfume was nice, but she really enjoyed getting to see Autumn whirl around in it and there was the added plus of her being closer to Mazie now. "I like it a whole lot more on you than in that bottle," She answered, reaching out for Autumn's hands to pull her closer, maybe even onto her lap. "Is this your favorite one?" She asked, finding herself leaning in to sniff the perfume a little more, Normally she might think that was a little creepy but right now, she did just want to be close to Autumn.
Autumn did get herself onto Mazie's lap, arms going around the other girl's neck as she smiled at her. "Mmhmmmmmm." she hummed. She tilted her head so Mazie could get a good sniff in around her neck, wanting her to do so. "What do you think? Is it me?" she asked.
This was definitely a pleasant way to keep her mind off the badness happening outside. Hopefully it was the same for Autumn. She couldn't help the smile that passed her lips and before Mazie even thought about it she was leaning in, giving a small kiss to Autumn's neck. "You can't wear something I won't like. If you like it, I love it."
Smiling at that, and the kiss, Autumn looked back to Mazie. "You sure about that? I'm sure there are terrible outfits in existence that would be just god awful on me..." she teased. "Think about it. I could wear neon."
Mazie shook her head and leaned back to let herself plop onto Autumn’s bed, wondering if Autumn would follow and they could just curl up for a while. “You can’t wear anything terrible, for one. And also, you could wear whatever you want to wear and I would love it. Potato sack, anything in the whole world...you’d still look amazing. Now me? I’m gonna stay far, far away from neons. I don’t think fluorescent green is my color.”
Autumn looked down at her, liking that particular image. If she had a camera, she would have taken a picture. She tilted her head to the side as she seemed to contemplate Mazie wearing neon. "I think I'd make the best of the situation." she told her with a nod, leaning closer. "And just take the liberty of getting the hideous colors off of you."
Oh. Ok then. Smiling, Mazie leaned up a little on her elbows, bringing herself closer to Autumn again. "Then I should go find some neon right now, I guess?" She offered, smirk crossing her lips as she watched Autumn.
Grinning, Autumn leaned in and kissed Mazie, putting a lot of effort into it. It was a deep one, and one that had a little bit of urgency behind it. She was always very careful with what steps she took with the blonde, wanting to be sure they took things at the right pace, and of course she had plans for eventual escalation. Now was no different, but she did indulge.
There it was, that little flip in her that Autumn seemed to be able to bring around whenever she was near. Mazie was definitely good with the kissing, even if the intensity was more than she was used to. She reached up to pull Autumn closer, not really able to keep the distance between them going when she really just wanted to feel Autumn so much closer. Plus she was delivering this amazing kiss and Mazie didn't want it to end until it absolutely had to. Pulling back when she needed a breath, she smiled more. "I got a lot of practicing to do if I'm gonna be as good a kisser as you are."
Nuzzling Mazie's nose from close up, she smiled and hummed an appreciative sound. "I think you're doing just fine." she murmured to her. "Kissing comes from the heart. There's no right or wrong way to do it. But, you know, if you insist on practicing, I can certainly sign up for being your practice partner." she teased affectionately.
That was good to hear, that Autumn thought she was doing a good job at this. It was a worry she let herself indulge in sometimes when she was away from the other girl, but right now it was really beneficial to hear that. "No one else I'd want as my partner than you," She said honestly, finally reaching up to pull Autumn closer, into her arms. "So..tell me why we have to go socialize again? I think you and me, we could do pretty well holed up in this room for the rest of our sentences…"
"Gives us something to talk about." Autumn said, tone teasing, though there was some truth in that. She'd seen it before, people who became too isolated had much more trouble with simple socialization, even with people they were close with. "Things to complain about, other people to gossip about..." she rattled off playfully.
"Well, there is that. Because you know how much I love to gossip," She said, smiling a little. "At least there's times like these when we can be in here and no one can come in and bother us." Times for them to really just be with each other, to just forget every other bullshitty thing that was happening outside of these walls. "Let's get to work on our Space Invaders game soon too. We never did get it set up right and I want to challenge you to a game."
"Absolutely." Autumn said. "I think a video game session is really in order either way." she nodded, feeling that would help. She gave Mazie a little soft kiss just beneath her jawline. "So are you going out then?" she asked. "Be social, get food in your system?"
"Probably later, but not right now. I'll go out when you go out, go be social, and come back later with tales of my incredible ability to pretend I care about a lot of stuff," She teased, smiling back at Autumn. "And bring my laptop over here later to settle in for the night, if that's ok with you."
"I think that sounds like a perfect evening." Autumn told her. And she did. Basically, all they needed was a double bed, and they'd be all set. Perhaps at some point, they could get one. She was going to keep it in mind, either way. She liked the idea of sharing a room with Mazie, on a more all-the-time basis. It would make her feel better on a number of levels. Maybe Mazie too.
