Carmel had rested if not slept most of the early afternoon, her music turned up on her computer and a book in her hand until her headache came back. The sleeping pills urged her to take one now, but she didn't want to screw up her sleep cycle even more than it already was, so she wasn't going to try to sleep until later tonight, at an appropriate time.
Right now, as always at this time of day since she'd arrived here, she was in the kitchen prepping supper. It was going to be pretty simple--spaghetti, one sauce with meat and one without, in deference to the vegetarians she knew lurked around here, and a green bean dish with garlic and sesame seeds, and garlic bread, and a salad. She would get the sauce and meat going in a moment, but for now she was preparing a large bowl of salad, tearing up the lettuce first.
