a nice little meet and greet
Characters: Carmel and Autumn
Setting: the gym, afternoon
Carmel had a lot of tension and frustration to work off at this point. She hadn't quite had time for anything but a couple of short workouts since her one with Wu the other day. She wished this one was going to be with him--that had been quite nice for her, and she'd enjoyed the company. She'd manage alone, though, she could do it, but she really should PM him and ask him if he'd do a workout with her tomorrow or the next day sometime, because she was definitely still interested.
She wore her simple work out clothes, glad she'd washed them since last time. Though really, if she could find someone to trade skills with to do her laundry for her, she totally would... She tossed down her towel and started to stretch, hoping this would help quiet her thoughts and mind because she really didn't like feeling this way. So worried and torn up and God, so freaking tired.
Autumn was hitting the gym for the first time since arriving. She'd been a little bit sticking to her room, then realized she was doing that. So, once she recognized that was what she was up to, she set out deliberately to undermine that. Staying in her room would do no one any good, least of all herself. So, she was going to go, check out the gym, get all sweaty, then take a bath and snuggle Mazie as much as possible later. It was so far a sound plan, so far as she was concerned.
When she got in, she spotted someone else, and smiled, waving. "Hello!" she greeted. "I'm not sure we've properly met, but you're the cook, right?" she asked.
Carmel looked up from her long stretch with a welcoming smile on her face. Work out, people, whatever took her mind off the things that currently troubled her. She recognized the other woman from around but she hadn't had the opportunity to meet her just yet.
"Yeah, I'm Carmel, the cook," she said agreeably, holding out her hand as she came closer. "I have seen you around, but I don't remember your name right off, sorry," she said apologetically.
Autumn took the woman's hand and shook it with a smile. "Pleased to meet you, and thank you for cooking." she said, getting that out there immediately. "You're amazing, and it's completely appreciated. I'm Autumn."
Carmel flushed faintly, thought Autumn might or might not notice it given her darker skin. "It's my pleasure, honestly, and I'm just glad that everyone seems to enjoy my cooking so far. If you ever want anything specific, just let me know, okay?" She said, always happy to have suggestions and ideas. She really should start a list. For some reason she had been avoiding sitting down and doing real meal planning this week. "It's really nice to meet you, Autumn. You're the one who did the hide and seek thing, right?"
"I am!" Autumn said. "Thought it'd be nice to do something silly and fun. Might try something else again soon, I'm up for suggestions if you've got any." she added. She started to stretch as well. "As for anything specific, I don't think I have anything too specific! I'm a vegetarian, but I know most everyone else eats meat, so I don't really think I'd request anything that others wouldn't enjoy."
Carmel smiled, unable to help herself in the face of such effusiveness. "It was a good idea. I enjoyed watching, though I didn't end up participating." Though she was sure Autumn likely realized as much. "Oh hmmm. I'm not sure. I never was much of a creative sort outside of the kitchen," she said somewhat ruefully. "Maybe something light-hearted and competitive." She would have to give it some extensive thought. "Oh, a vegetarian. I hadn't realized," she said somewhat apologetically. At least she'd made at least one vegetarian pizza the other night, and thank God the woman wasn't a vegan. That would be practically impossible here. "I'll try to make sure there's a little more vegetarian variety for you. It shouldn't be too hard."
“I thought I saw you there.” Autumn said with a smile. “Next time you should definitely participate. Could be fun to do something with the tunnel, or the two blocks. Not sure what could be done exactly, but something. As for the food, don’t worry about it! But thank you, either way.”
"I'm not sure what could be done but I'm not sure what. It's a little disconcerting how things keep expanding so much," Carmel commented. Just like it was hard to keep track of all the people, she was finding. "I know, but it won't kill people to eat more veggies," she half joked. "I am hoping someone with a green thumb will take up with that farm we suddenly have."
Autumn stood straight and started a few more stretches with her arms. "We have a farm? Wow, I really have to go check out the new area. I'm behind." she said. "You're disconcerted about the new places? How come?" she asked, honestly interested in what Carmel's point of view was.
"We apparently do," Carmel said. "Though I haven't been over to see it yet. There's supposedly a whole other block of rooms over there." She wondered again if anyone knew yoga here who could teach it sufficiently well. She shrugged slightly. "It just seems like everything is changing every day here. No time to even adjust to one new thing, then there's another one you have to assimilate too."
"It does seem to be fairly rapid-fire." Autumn agreed. "I suppose I hadn't thought of it as disconcerting. But then I think what I found more disconcerting was such a closed off area. I think it makes me feel slightly better to have a little more space to spread out in."
"I don't mind closed in as much, but living in the city, I've never minded as much." Though moving out to Jersey had been nice... they'd rented that little house, and it had had a yard, and... well, there was no use thinking about the dreams she and Franklin had shared for a little while, before everything changed and went south so very badly. "Though I do wish I knew where we were, and maybe had a view to the outside. I wouldn't try to leave, but a view would be nice." No, she'd do her time, as she'd always intended from the start, and she'd be very glad if and when they decided to let her go.
Autumn gave a wistful sigh. "Oh god, a view would be awesome." she agreed. "I have to admit, I would love to take a look around wherever we're located. I have no idea what to expect, weather-wise. But I doubt they'd give us something like that. So, I guess we'll just have to hope to keep good memories alive."
"Yeah, I would love to at least know what to expect for the rest of the summer and for the winter. I like to prepare myself at least mentally, especially if it's going to be really cold. So far the weather makes me think we're at least a bit north, since it's not been ungodly hot and it's July, you know?" she said, and then shrugged. "Of course, maybe it's just a mild summer, but I don't remember hearing that offhand." But then again, it depended on the part of the country. "Yeah, I guess we will. Just sort of sucks sometimes," she said, wrinkling her nose.
Autumn nodded. "Yeah, it's been cooler than I'm used to for July." she agreed. She stood straight again and then headed over to one of the treadmills. "We'll figure it out eventually, I suppose, and I for one will keep hope for some kind of view sometime." she said with a smile. "It was nice talking to you, we should get together sometime just to chat again." she suggested.
"It was nice talking to you too," Carmel said with a smile. "And it was nice to meet you as well. Definitely should chat again sometime," she told the other woman as she moved off. Once Carmel had room again, she started a kick-boxing routine like she'd done with Wu that day, getting her exercise and trying to burn off the frustration from the day while she could.
