kisses make everything better
Characters: Autumn and Mazie
Setting: Autumn’s room, after The Incident
Autumn could bruise her shoulders, she could break the bone in it and Mazie wouldn't care. She had her eyes half on Autumn, half watching that bastard across the way and when he punched a wall, her eyes narrowed again at him. Turning, she rubbed Autumn's back slowly, not sure what else to do other than just try and help, try and be there, and definitely not let him anywhere near Autumn again. "It's ok, don't talk if you don't want to...I won't let him close to you again, I promise. You're ok," She said, pulling Autumn closer to her. She wanted to bring her water, but she wasn't leaving Autumn, period, so that seemed sort of out of the question.
Autumn gave herself a moment, drawing in breaths easier, and then she looked around to see that the guy was away. He was, which relieved her. Then she looked to Mazie. She threw her arms around her neck and clung tight for a minute. "Thank you." she managed, still shaken.
Mazie held her closer, making sure to keep her head away from Autumn's neck at the rest of agitating the spot he'd grabbed before. Just the thought of it again made her sick, a slow, nagging thought coming to her mind that she shouldn't have been off across the other side of the pool but by Autumn instead. "That shit is not gonna happen again, Autumn, I swear. I won't let anyone do that to you ever again." She was only now starting to feel a dull throb in her hand from where she'd punched Brady, but she didn't even care. She just stroked down Autumn's hair, unaware how unsteady her own hands were.
Autumn stayed where she was for a second, even if she could feel that Mazie wasn't necessarily super steady either. "I'm okay." she repeated. "I'm okay." though who she was trying to convince, she wasn't sure. Drawing in a deep breath that still hurt slightly, she pulled back but didn't quite let go.
Mazie wasn't exactly excited to feel Autumn pulling away yet and instantly she tried to move with her instead of let their embrace stop. She felt like maybe she could try and calm herself down if she had Autumn safe in her arms, but without here there Mazie was sure she'd lose it again. But when she realized she wasn't pulling away entirely, she sat down and let one hand rest on Autumn's arm gently, the other reaching up to push her hair back and tuck it behind her ear, trying to catch a glimpse of what damage might be done to Autumn's neck. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there sooner..."
"Mazie, I blinked and you were there." Autumn told her, watching her eyes. And, with that, she leaned in and kissed her. She'd wanted to wait for the right time, she'd had a plan forming in the back of her mind about it. Something romantic. But all those plans flew straight out the window with Mazie apologizing for not having been there sooner, when she'd been there in the blink of an eye. Autumn had barely had time to register what had happened and Mazie was there. And she'd punched a man much bigger than she was to boot. If there was ever a girl who deserved a kiss, it was Mazie, right then and there.
Woah. If there was anything that Mazie didn't expect to happen right now, it was getting a kiss from Autumn. A kiss from Autumn. She was stunned into immobility for a moment, her mind only able to process one thing, 'kiss from Autumn', over and over until her hand moved and went to Autumn's cheek as she kissed her back. Her eyes shut and in that moment, nothing hurt. She felt a new and different kind of racing of her heart, but past that, nothing. No throbbing hand, no fear, nothing but good.
Autumn was about to pull back, thinking she'd done the wrong thing, when the kiss was returned. So she drew it out longer, deepening it just a slight bit, just enough to get a little bit of a taste of her on her lips. She only drew back when the kiss came to a natural close, and she smiled. "My hero." she said to her, voice quiet. Just for Mazie's ears.
Oh. The kiss could have kept her going for days, but the added extra bit, the part where she heard from Autumn's lips, in Autumn's voice right in her own ear, that she was her hero, had Mazie's stomach flopping in a way she was so unused to. She had never felt this before, not the acceleration of her heart, not the weird fluttery sensation in her stomach, but she didn't want it to go anywhere and she certainly didn't want to lose it. Tucking another piece of Autumn's hair back behind her ear, she smiled at her. "So glad you're ok," She said back gently. "Want to get out of here?" Or maybe at least get a towel around her and some water in her system, maybe some ice to her neck wouldn't hurt either.
"For now, yeah. Though I think we need to find some brooms..." she said, glancing at the broken glass everywhere. "Maybe we could clean up quickly, then get out? Go someplace quiet?" she suggested. She'd been wanting to be social, she really, truly had, and she thought it was good for Mazie to be social too, but after that? She was thinking she needed a little quiet time. Just, quiet time that included Mazie.
"You just...stay put, I'll handle it," Mazie said, looking back down at the glass and suddenly annoyed again that they had to clean this up. Still, as long as Autumn was safe now and she could keep an eye on her, Mazie would handle a little glass. Standing up, she went for their towels, thankfully very close to them, and tossed one down on the ground near the glass. The other she unfolded and wrapped around Autumn's shoulders with a small smile. Then she was back at the glass, gathering up everything she could and putting it inside the towel, which was about as safe as she could get with this. "There might be some tiny shards but I think I got the most of it..and we don't even know where a broom would be." The very last thing she wanted to do right now was go searching for a broom when she mostly just wanted to get Autumn away from here. "Let's stop in the kitchen, grab some water and some ice, and then we can go wherever you want. Deal?"
Autumn took the moment, watching over to the soldier and the other girl, seeing things didn't really appear calm. Shit. But he wasn't punching the girl, so she hoped that meant it was under control. He had let her go, but still. She flinched when she saw him punch the wall again. "OKay." she said. She looked around to see if she could spot any stray glass, and saw she couldn't. Then she reached out to slip her hand into Mazie's, threading her fingers through the other girls. "Let's go."
Mazie was not even bothering looking their way. Right now, her priority was Autumn so the last thing she was even concerned with was looking back to check if that bastard was ok. Instead, she just bundled the glass in her towel and threaded her hands with Autumn's, leading her towards the exit of the pool. "So Kitchen, water and ice, and then where do you want to go?"
"My room." she told Mazie. "You can tweak my computer. Maybe we can watch a movie, or something. Something quiet?" she suggested. Really what she'd kind of like to do is snuggle, that would be nice and calming but she didn't want to take advantage of Mazie like that. So, she'd play it by ear, and see how it went. But either way, she wanted her there.
Once in the kitchen, Mazie was a flurry of activity in the interest of time. The less time she spent down here right now, the better. She threw her towel away in the garbage bag, not thinking twice about it since the glass inside was pretty solidly contained inside the towel. Grabbing a big glass of water and a tray of ice cubes, Mazie figured they could use as much or as little of them as they wanted and wrap them in towels once they were back up in Autumn's room.
The walk from the kitchen to Autumn's room seemed to stretch forever. With each passing step away from the pool, she started to feel a tiny bit better but she didn't feel any sort of real safety until she had Autumn in her room, with the door closed and locked behind them. "We're here," She said, a sense of relief clear in her tone. "What can I do? Can I run you a bath or something? I know you like your bubbles..."
"Not unless you're planning to come with me." Autumn said, stepping in and heading over to curl on the couch. "Just hand over the ice, and stay here with me?" she suggested. "That's all I really want." she admitted. "Sorry if I'm a little clingy right now."
“I would if you wanted me to,” She answered honestly as she waited for Autumn to get settled. She brought the ice to her then went to the bed, grabbing the blanket off the top of it and bringing it back to drape across Autumn. The loveseat was smallish, but she wanted to be close to Autumn so she lifted up her feet and settled into the space at the end of the couch, ready to help with popping ice out and getting it ready for Autumn. A thought passed through the back of her mind about putting some on her hand, but she pushed it away, really only wanting to make sure that Autumn was taken care of. "Don’t say that, don't apologize. I wouldn't be anywhere else right now anyway. I don't want to be anywhere else, just here. You're not clingy," She said, trying to smile to reassure her. If anyone was clingy, it was probably Mazie, who was already pretty sure that she'd sleep on the floor by Autumn's bed just to make sure she was all right. “And if you want anything, you just tell me and I’ll make it happen.”
Autumn smiled at Mazie's first reply, a faint one, but present. At all the rest, she was swept over with a wave of warmth. It was hard not to be when being told things like that. When Mazie settled in, Autumn leaned over to rest against her, deciding that she was going to snuggle. "You're doing a damn good job just doing what you're doing right now." she told her genuinely.
Mazie shifted around, letting Autumn settle where she wanted and when she did, she wrapped her arms around the girl and settled too. She wasn't thinking past this moment to the fact that this might be the first time she'd snuggled with someone. Her arms just fell naturally to their place around Autumn, whether it be from instinct or the desire to just make sure she was safe where she was. She was able to reach the ice wrapped in the large towel from here, though already slightly annoyed with herself that she didn't grab a smaller towel from the kitchen to hold it in. Still, after a moment of just holding Autumn, she brushed her hair back from her neck and put the ice there gently. "Just want to make sure you're ok," Mazie said softly, trying not to think back to when she was mad, to when she was furious that someone had dared touch Autumn, let alone push her into a wall. Right now, she didn't want to get mad again. "How're you feeling?"
Autumn allowed herself to be pampered a little bit. It was rare indeed when that happened. She was usually the one doing the catering. "Better." she said. She slid her hand along Mazie's wrist, gently tugging her hand out to inspect it for injury. "Did you hurt your hand?" she asked, pressing a kiss to Mazie's knuckles. She kept it gentle, not wanting to aggravate anything, of course.
Mazie felt that same strange flip in her stomach when Autumn kissed her hand and while she expected the contact to hurt, it didn’t. Instead, and maybe it was mental, but the throbbing in it didn’t seem so bad after that kiss. “It’s ok. He deserved worse than that. Kinda wished Edan didn’t step in...Don’t know what the hell that guy’s problem was but I want him to know that he better never get close to you again...” But if Edan hadn’t stepped in, that would have been less time Mazie would have had making sure Autumn was ok and more time trying to pummel that asshat instead.
"He was an ex military type." Autumn said. She started to gently massage Mazie's hand. "He seemed to have a whole lot of issues." she added. "Which, I know, people do. It happens. And here, it's actually probably more likely than anything else. I should have been more careful. I just don't like to live my life in paranoia mode." she admitted with a sigh. "It's possible it wasn't quite his fault."
Mazie shook her head a little. "Autumn, no...I don't give a shit if he single-handedly saved the world. He doesn't get to put his hands on you that way." Or at all. "Don't care what he's done, he doesn't get to do that. It's never ok." She did end up closing her eyes, though, as Autumn massaged her hand. It was helping to dull the throbbing and actually helping her hand not hurt as much, though she wouldn't have guessed it might work that way. "There's no way you should go around this place, walking on eggshells. I wouldn't want that for you. You're so happy...and he doesn't get to just do whatever the fuck he wants because he's an ex-soldier."
Autumn smiled, tilting her head back a little to half gaze up at Mazie. "I didn't say it was okay." she told her lightly. "Just that it might not have been his fault. There's a difference between actions being excusable and understandable." she added. "I'm not going to walk on eggshells, either. I'm not an eggshells kind of girl." she gave a reassuring little smile. "Can you see me doing that?"
"So you think it's understandable that he threw you into a wall by your neck? Because I don't." Mazie said, watching Autumn for a moment until she couldn't help the little smile on her own lips. "No, I don't see you doing that. But I..Autumn, if this stuff can happen anytime, anywhere..." Sighing, she shrugged a little. "I know we're supposed to be trusting and working together or whatever but how can I do that after this?"
"How many soldiers do you know, hon?" Autumn asked softly. She brought Mazie's hand back to her lips to give a few more light little kisses. "I've known a few, and this could have been worse, and he did drop me on his own. He didn't do it on purpose, it happened. Unfortunately, sometimes that happens. I've never been on the receiving end of it before, but I've seen other symptoms of things like it. I think when you send people off to go kill other people no one comes back just fine." she explained. "After this, we get snuggly, and we take a beat, and we go back to doing things how we did before. Or, I do, anyways. And maybe I hesitate slightly before touching people I don't know next time."
Mazie had to think about it, which wasn’t exactly what she was hoping for. How many soldiers did she know? None that she could think of off the top of her head. “Ok, so maybe you have a point. You always have a point...but please don’t expect me to forgive him for this. I’m not going to sit around and just pretend like I want to tolerate this guy, not after what he did...whether it was intentional or not. And you should feel about it whatever way you want to feel about it, but I don’t want you to start thinking that it’s somehow your fault when someone grabs you and hurts you. That’s not right at all...” She looked back down at Autumn, reaching to brush a strand of hair back behind her ear because she’d liked it the first couple of times she’d gotten to do it. “And just so you know...neither of us has to be hurt in order for us to get snuggly. I mean..if you wanted to do that kind of stuff more often or whatever...” She added, hoping the sentence didn’t sound as awkward out-loud as it might have in her head.
Autumn smiled a little. "I'm not saying it was my fault either." she promised. "I'm not going to take blame where I don't deserve it." she added. When Mazie said the last bit, Autumn smiled, and gave Mazie's arms a squeeze. "I could get used to snuggling with you." she told her warmly, affectionately. "So if you're game, so am I." Looking back at Mazie again, she gave a moment before she continued. "You got so angry. You really stepped up for me."
“Good,” she said gently, smiling a little more when Autumn explained that. There was that little flip in her stomach again, the one that had Mazie smiling more especially when Autumn squeezed her arms. “I think I might already be used to it. I’m game,” She said gently, definitely already sure she didn’t want to get up and settled down more into the couch to prove that. She was quiet for a moment after Autumn asked that. “I’m still mad. I’m still angry that he touched you…that he hurt you. And I just…feel like I want to just camp out outside your door to make sure he doesn’t come back. I know it’s probably paranoid, but I’m…on edge thinking he might do something like this again to you at some point.”
Shifting a little to snuggle comfortably with Mazie, Autumn smiled again. "Well that's just not the way to go." she said, reaching up to remove the towel with the ice from her neck in favor of more serious snuggling. "You aren't allowed to camp outside my door, when you could just camp out in here." she told her affectionately.
She hesitated only once when Autumn went for the ice, actually worried that her neck might hurt her more if there wasn't ice on it, but then she had to remind herself that this was Autumn and she was trying to snuggle with her and if she wanted the ice gone, then Mazie should just shut her thoughts up and let it go because she’d be stupid to protest what was going on right now. She pulled Autumn closer just a little, smiling more when she heard that. "We can camp out anywhere you want. You can camp out in my room too. I have a stash of non-perishable foods, remember?"
Laughing a touch, Autumn nodded, the motion nuzzling against Mazie. "I remember." she said. She was quiet again for a moment, smiling to herself and at Mazie. "So." she said. "For a girl who wanted nothing more than to spend time behind her computer screen, how's this interaction thing going for you?" she asked. "Today, you punched someone, and got kissed."
Mazie let herself just feel that, feel how nice it was to have someone nuzzle against her. She never would have pictured herself here, with anyone actually but definitely not a beautiful girl like Autumn. “I’m...doing ok with it, I guess? It’s not like I’ve never punched anyone before and I got kissed once or twice but never like that. That was way better, I’d take the punch any time to get a kiss like that,” She said before she thought about it. Once she heard the words, she felt a flush of her cheeks. Great, way to be completely awkward. Completely awkward. So she tried to tack onto the end of her strange sentence, “Do you think I’m doing good at it? I’m trying...told you I would so I am.”
"I think you're doing a great job." Autumn told her, smiling. "As for the kisses part...think we could try it again?" she asked, shifting around more. She felt a sore kind of pain in her neck, but ignored it for now. It wasn't as bad as it could be. She'd probably have some bruises, but she'd be alright. She'd live. Currently, kissing Mazie was rating higher on her list than dealing with her throat.
To know that Autumn thought she was doing well was definitely good news, but to hear that next part, that part where Autumn wanted to kiss her again, had her stunned and staring at the girl. Had she hoped for more kisses? Yes, of course. Did she think that Autumn might want to give her more kisses right now, not exactly. Dumbly, she nodded, and after a moment realized she hadn't said anything, and answered almost immediately after that with, "Hell yeah."
Autumn smiled at that, and she leaned in fast to capture Mazie's lips. She drew it out, making it slow but not lacking in heat. Nothing too overwhelming for the other girl, but just enough to be enticing. Autumn was good at gauging things, it was, after all, part of her work. And she put all of that knowledge to use, wanting everything to be memorable for the blonde.
There was still a lot that Mazie needed to learn about kisses, though apparently she’d found a pretty good teacher. Autumn was incredible and it was all Mazie could do just to try and keep up with her and not get stunned into immobilization by the thought that this was even actually happening to her. She certainly didn’t need to worry about this being memorable, because Mazie was sure she’d never forget this day and definitely not these kisses. She did her best to keep up with the slow, intense kiss and ended up with her hand up near Autumn’s cheek, wanting nothing more than to somehow pull her closer.
Autumn drew it out until it hit it's natural close, and when she pulled back it wasn't far. She made a pleasant humming sound, something content. "I've wanted to do that since the day we met." she said. which, sure, wasn't actually that long ago. A few days. But still, it felt like a long time. And it had been worth it. She was pleased with the progression of everything.
For a moment, it was all Mazie could do to just stare at Autumn. She was so close to her and making this really cute sound and it left Mazie just wanting to lean in and kiss her again. But her words snapped her back and she caught Autumn’s eyes, surprise in her own. “Really? ‘Cause I thought that was probably just me...” She wasn’t going to lie and say that she hadn’t wanted to do the same thing since the first time they’d met, especially not if there were more kisses on the horizon.
Grinning, Autumn shook her head. "It's definitely not just you." she promised, then kissed her again. She would keep things light for the moment, she was still planning on taking it very slowly, but some nice introductory making out? That she could handle. It made the incident with Brady seem far away.
