Helping Out Makes Things Easier For Everyone Characters: Edan and Jason Setting: Room 4, 8:30 am
It felt weird, making his way back to his room and knowing that it wasn't his anymore. It was Edan's. But at least she was letting him get his clothes. Sounded like she hadn't been that lucky. Jason supposed she must have either been on the second floor or in Block B, since both were inaccessible now. He was even less happy about that than he was being woken at seven and forced to leave his things and change rooms. First, they had moved Reggie to Block B, and then shut down access to that side of the facility. This whole thing sucked.
Knocking on his - Edan's, God that was a difficult thing to get used to - door, he stepped back, hands in the pockets of his sleep pants. He supposed he should be grateful that he had been wearing that and a t-shirt, and that he had taken the time to put on his shoes before leaving this morning. He imagined some people hadn't been that lucky.
Edan had her pajamas on, a pair of sweats and tank top, as well as Matt’s hoodie. She had sandals as well, but that was it, just a flimsy pair of flip flops. Better than nothing she supposed. She was trying not to take up space in Jason’s room, looking around a little, but not doing more than that. It was weird. It wasn’t hers. Provided they didn’t expect her not to stay with Matt, she might wind up doing that instead, staying there.
When he knocked on the door she opened it almost immediately, smiling at him, though not very brightly. “Hey,” she said moving to let him into his room.
Smiling slightly in response to Edan's smile, Jason couldn't help but point out, "You sound about as thrilled with all this as I am." Following her into his - her - room, he couldn't help but look around. "So aside from this wonderful wake up call, how are you doing today?"
“Unsettled. I don’t like not having my things. And I’m not sure who does,” Edan said honestly with a shrug. “It’s a hard thing to deal with. At least your stuff was just on the other side of the block.” Whereas her things were on the other block and apparently cut off. Hopefully that was only for now, but it didn’t bode well.
Jason nodded. He understood what she meant, and also realized that, in regards to his belongings at least, he had been lucky. More so than her anyway. "So did you get moved from upstairs or over from Block B?" The mention of her lack of stuff also reminded him of his earlier offer. "And have you found anything of mine you wanted to borrow?" Hell, she was letting him come and get his things - something she didn't have to do - so letting her borrow some of his clothes until she could get some of her own was the least he could do.
“B block,” Edan said with a sigh. “I’d just moved over there too.” Because it was safer, and yet here she was, back where she’d started with no privacy around which room she was in whatsoever. She thought of Matt’s bruised hand and shivered, wrapping her arms around herself. It was weird, wanting to be with him and being slightly afraid of him at the same time. “Um, I didn’t pry into things. I didn’t want to be too nosey.”
Well, that sounded like a pain in the ass. Jason couldn't help but wonder why they had moved her back over here if she had just moved. He didn't ask though, knowing she probably didn't have an answer any more than he did. He nodded, appreciating the thought behind what she had said. "Thanks. But technically, it's your room now. And I don't really have much for you to to go through anyway." Other than his clothes, he hadn't collected too many things, just a couple things here and there. "Come on, let's see if we can find you something that will work until you can get your stuff back."
It wasn’t much, but it got a smile out of Edan, and a nod. He’d seemed like a nice guy from the first time she met him, so it was good to know he was overall pretty decent. “Thanks,” she said with a nod. “And I promise to get it back to you too. After I get my stuff back.”
Pleased he had managed to get a smile out of her, Jason grinned back at Edan. "I'd appreciate that. But in the meantime? Don't worry about it." Going over to the wardrobe, he opened it up. Fortunately, he had done laundry not too long ago, so most of his clothes were clean. He doubted any of his jeans would fit her, but she had only requested shirts anyway. Pulling out his shirts, he spread them out on the bed. "Why don't you pick out a few shirts while I go get my stuff from the bathroom. And you know, pick up the mess." It wasn't that messy, but he figured he should probably try to take care of that too.
"It's not that bad," Edan said about the mess. Because it wasn't. She would keep it neater, but that was her. That kind of consistency helped her. She looked over his shirts and wound up with two plain tshirts, something that wouldn't be too huge on her. It wasn't perfect but it was better than nothing.
Picking up the few dirty clothes he had, Jason grabbed the rest of his things from the bathroom, straightening up as he finished. Satisfied that he had gotten everything - and that things were at least a little neater than they had been before - he returned to where Edan was. "Find something?" he asked as he put his small pile of clothes with his other clothes, before bending down to pull the dumbbells out from under the bed. He was glad he didn't have much else, aside from the book from the library. At least he'd be able to carry this much.
Edan nodded slightly. “These two shirts,” she said pointing towards the two she’d set aside. “If that’s okay. I hate putting you out you know?” She smiled a little, hoping that would help. She’d been good with people, always, but she’d respected them. That was what had gotten her so far.
Jason nodded as he saw the shirts she had indicated. "That's fine. I wouldn't have offered if I had a problem with it. Besides, if either of us is being put out by all of this, I'd say it's you. Like you said, at least I can come and get my things. Thanks for that, by the way." He knew he had thanked her before, but it bore repeating. After all, she could have just as easily kept his things for herself.
“Well, honestly I don’t have much use for a bunch of guy’s clothes.” She paused at that though. She did actually. “Do you think I can do you think I can borrow a pair of your jeans too? For a friend of mine? He got cut off from his room.” She didn’t want Matt to be completely high and dry, even if he and Jason weren’t the same size.
The request caught him off-guard, but Jason shrugged. He had no problem with helping out; he just hoped that Reggie would be able to find someone willing to lend him some clothes as well. "Sure. And I can't promise anything, but there are clothes in the room I was just moved into as well. If no one claims them in the next few days, he can have those as well." If someone claimed them, he'd hold on to them, even if the other person had gotten moved to the other block, but if no one was even going bother to claim them...Might as well go to someone who needed them.
Edan let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “Thanks. And if he finds out he’s got other things waiting in his new room or found something else, I’ll give them back.” She bit her lip, then smiled at him softly. “Thank you Jason. Really. You didn’t have to be this nice.”
"No problem," Jason assured her with a smile. He shrugged, a little self-conscious, because really, this wasn't that big of a deal. "I mean, I have a friend that got moved over to Block B, so I know I'm hoping someone helps him out too." Not that Reggie would have a problem going around in his pajamas, but that wasn't the point. The point was, he understood, and that's why he didn't really have any problems helping her and her friend out since he could.
Edan reached forward and squeezed his arm, setting aside the clothes and reaching for one of his piles. “Come on, I’ll help you carry everything.” Mostly since he was being so nice.
Smiling back at her, Jason picked up the other pile of clothes as well as the dumbbells and the book. It wasn't much, but it still was more than he had expected. He was grateful for the help. She didn't have to help, but he had a feeling that she would insist even if he told her so. It was what he would have done. "Thank you," he told her sincerely. Heading towards her door, he glanced back to check on more time that he had everything. Satisfied, he started towards his new room. "Come on, let's get my crap out of your room," he teased with a grin.
