Interesting, But Confusing Encounters
Who:Pippa and Jason
When: Early Afternoon
Where: The Garage
The masquerade had been kind of a bust for Pippa so she set off to the garage with a plan to wreak some havoc or at least obtain tools in order to do so later. She was already messing around in it, opening cabinets to sift through their contents by pulling most of it out onto the floor and then moving on to the next.
She’d found some interesting tools and she wasn’t sure what she was going to do with them just yet, but she figured she might as well hold onto them because a plan would formulate depending on what she found. She was stuffing them into a modified bag she’d made out of half of a sheet slung over her shoulder and then moving on again, not extremely aware of how loud she was being.
Having already been to the gym earlier, Jason was bored, and what better way to fix that than to find Reggie. He sort of wanted to talk to the other man anyway, and even if they didn't get around to that, he found it much easier to relax around the other man. Jason knew the other man was still working hard to fix up the car down there, so he made his way down to the garage. He had found that, around this time of the day, that was generally the best place to start looking for the other man. As he approached, he heard the sounds of someone banging around in there, and he smiled slightly. However, the smile dropped slightly as he entered the room. It wasn't Reggie. It was a woman he didn't recognize, and she was... Well, he wasn't sure what he was doing. Confused, he watched her for a moment; she looked like a thief raiding a jewelry shop or something. Which, granted, she might have been a thief, but it didn't really explain what she was doing. He was pretty sure the tools in here were for everyone to use.
After a moment, he spoke up. "You know, it'd probably be easier to find what you were looking for if you weren't throwing everything everywhere." As an afterthought, his curiosity getting the better of him, Jason asked, "What are you doing?"
Pippa didn't much care about Jason. She didn't look up when he spoke, instead putting a couple screwdrivers into her pack first. When she stood up, she glanced over her shoulder, tattoos on her face around her narrowed eyes. "And you give a shit because…? Last I checked, minding your own business was the best way to keep that pretty face of yours looking the same way it does right now. Unless you think you can help me. Do you think you can help me?”
The tattoos on her face caught him off-guard, as did the attitude. Jason recovered fairly quickly though, easy smile disappearing as he crossed his arms over his chest. Not acknowledging her threat, he answered, "Depends on what you're planning on doing once you find what you're looking for." Had she not just threatened him, he probably wouldn't even have questioned the request for help. Now though, while he wasn't really intimidated, he was more cautious, uncertain of her intentions.
"Can't a girl just need to fix something?" Pippa asked, looking away from him and focusing back on the mess she was making. She went for another cabinet and crouched down, opening it to begin pulling things from it and tossing them so they crashed into other, forgotten items behind her.
"You could," Jason agreed, making sure to stay out of range of the tools she tossed behind her. "But for some reason, I find that hard to believe." He couldn't say he was thrilled with what she was doing, but she wasn't being actively destructive at the moment, so he didn't try to stop her. "I'm also going to guess that you weren't planning on putting the rest of these things back where they were, but I'd be okay with being wrong about that one too."
"Don't much care what you guess, or what you think," Pippa said, looking back at him quickly before focusing again on the tools. She wasn't really sure what she was looking for still, but she grabbed a small can of motor oil and figured she could have some fun with that, too. "What's your name?"
That, Jason figured, was a no. He didn't comment on it, though his eyes did narrow slightly as he tried to figure out what she was planning on doing with the motor oil she had grabbed. He was caught off guard when she asked for his name. Still, he didn't see any reason not to answer her. "Jason," he answered, leaning back against the closest workbench. "What's yours?" He wasn't sure she would answer, but he figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
"Jason. Like, of the Argonauts. Are you a warrior, Jason?" She asked, completely avoiding the question he'd asked her. Maybe, later, he'd learn her name but not now. She stood up and stepped over the mess she'd made, heading to the opposite side of the garage and to the cabinets there. "Do you think you would win in a fight?"
It didn't escape Jason's notice that she didn't answer his question, though he wasn't terribly surprised about that. Still, he wasn't sure what to make of her next question. It wasn't one he had been expecting, and certainly wasn't one he could recall having ever been asked before. "I've never been a soldier or in war, so technically, no," Jason answered, even though he knew that probably wasn't what she meant. If she could be difficult, he could too. The other part of her question was really what caught him off-guard though. Even though she was on the other side of the garage, he couldn't help but keep a sharp eye on her, not sure where she was going with that question. "Why? Planning on picking a fight?" he asked with a slight laugh. First instinct had been to say yes, but he figured he should probably figure out what exactly she was talking about first.
"If you don't consider yourself a warrior, I don't think you'd win in a fight," Pippa said seriously, shoving something else into her bag before she stood up. "Want to see? You can have any item you find as a weapon…" It might be fun, see who came out of this place alive, or at least unharmed. Why not? He liked to be in her business so Pippa could make her business about Jason for the time being.
Suddenly, the whole thing seemed a lot less funny. When Jason had asked if she was looking to pick a fight, he certainly hadn't been serious. Now though, her tone of voice implied that she wasn't joking. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. Still, instinct had him taking in his surroundings, moving slightly away from the workbench so he had more room. "No, I can't really say that I do want to see," Jason answered darkly, eyes narrow, serious in a way that he normally wasn't. "But if you're serious about this... What makes you think I need a weapon?" He wasn't sure about this woman, and certainly didn't like the idea of getting into a fight - especially with a woman - but that didn't mean he wasn't going to defend himself if she tried to pick a fight.
"What makes you think you don't need one? You just told me every weakness you have." Pippa gave him a look, lips forming a small grin as she watched him. Whether or not he had divulged any weaknesses, she wasn't about to let on. "Do you think you could win in a fight without a weapon? That's might ballsy of you. Here I am, doing you a favor, giving you a chance to pick your weapon and you're squandering it…" She said, her tone of voice singsongy as she crossed her arms and watched him.
Well, she did have one thing right. "Ballsy or stupid. One of the two," Jason agreed with a dark grin. He hadn't survived in prison by backing down, and he sure hadn't gotten himself to a point where the other inmates left him alone by being a pushover. Just because he had let himself get used to this place and the slightly different set of rules here didn't mean he had forgotten how things worked. And while she might be - or likely was - crazy, he sure as hell wasn't afraid of this woman. "And since you were so kind with your favor, let me give you a friendly piece of advice: Back off. This is one fight you will lose, whether or not I'm armed" he warned her, voice cold. As much as he hoped she would listen to him, he kept a sharp eye on her, not really believing she would. He let himself physically relax though his focus on her never shifted, keeping his body loose, ready to move if she decided to test him.
"I don't take threats from people who don't sound like they can back them up." Pippa wanted more from him. "You don't even consider yourself a warrior and you're named after one. That's real sad. C'mon, I'll let you have the first swing. Give it your best shot, we'll see where we go from there. Sparring is fun, right? Or..well, you wouldn't' know, would you, because you aren't a warrior…"
Even though he never took his attention from her, Jason did spare a moment to roll his eyes. He was annoyed more than angry though, for which he would probably be grateful later. He had been telling Brady the truth several days ago when he had said that he had been working on controlling his temper, and honestly, this woman was picking the wrong nerves if she was hoping to really piss him off. "Sorry, but I have no desire to get into a fight with you. Doesn't mean I won't break you arm if you try something, but if you're hoping to entertain yourself by getting me to come after you, you might as well leave now."
"I don't think me leaving is in the cards. I was here first, right? Finders Keepers." She said, leaning against a cabinet as she watched him. "You could skeedaddle, though, if you want to. Maybe you're not cut out to be in the garage…It's kind of a manly place, you know, for warriors and stuff." She looked back down at her hands, picking idly at some gunk under one of her nails. "Or do I have it wrong; do you want to be the damsel? I could be the warrior, save you from a fire-breathing dragon…" There had to be something she could light on fire in here.
This was ridiculous. The problem was, Jason couldn't bring himself to leave; that would be too close to turning tail and running. He knew he was tempting fate, not getting away when he had the chance, but honestly... He wasn't sure what she would do if he did try to leave, but he was willing to bet it would be just as bad, if not worse than staying. And there was also the part of him that refused to leave her alone in this place, because he didn't want to see what sort of damage she could do in here if left alone. Still, her comment did make him laugh, amused despite himself, though even that wasn't enough to make him drop his guard. "Yeah, sorry, but I think I'll pass. You might be a good warrior, but I'm pretty sure you'd rather watch me burn than come and rescue me." Even though she had set him up for it, he didn't mention that he was used to fire, that he had been a firefighter, because with this woman, he couldn't help the feeling that he should try to avoid giving her as much information as possible. After all, she had already proved willing to use anything he said against him if she was given the chance.
A slow smile started on Pippa's lips as she crossed her arms over her chest when it came to fruition. "I like you, Jason. You're funny. Tell me a joke," She said, pulling herself up on the small counter she was leaning against to sit down and watch him. She leaned in, elbows on her knees and head in her hands, and just waited as she swung her legs, too short to reach the ground truly.
Jason really did not understand this woman; he wasn't sure how anything he had just said would get her to change her mind from threatening to looking for a joke. It made him wonder if she was just... bored, and really bad at finding an appropriate outlet. If that was the case - and even if it wasn't - he might as well humor her request for a joke. And though he never took his attention away from her, Jason did allow himself to relax slightly, moving to lean against another counter as he watched her. "Okay. The real joke is on you though, if you think I'm funny." He considered for a second before going with the first joke that came to mind. "During a beginner's skydiving course, a student asked, If our chute doesn't open... and the reserve doesn't open, how long do we have 'til we hit the ground? The jump master answered, The rest of your life." It was a little dark, and not terribly funny, but her request had caught him off-guard, and it was amusing at least.
Pippa continued to watch Jason and at his joke, she grinned again. "I like you, Jason," She reiterated, nodding a little. The joke was dark and morbid, but it had Pippa's wheels turning. She should jump off of something. It'd been a while since shed done anything like that, sometime before she got thrown in prison. Maybe it was time to get the adrenaline going again. "You ever BASE jumped, Jason?"
Jason wasn't sure if the fact that she had decided that she liked him was a good thing or not. On the one hand, it was probably better than her threatening him, or threatening things in general, but then again, he wondered what that said about him that he had managed to make someone like that like him. Still, he wasn't going to spend too much time thinking about it, at least not right now. "Never been BASE jumping," Jason told her with a shrug. "I have been skydiving a couple of times, but that's as close as I've come." He had enjoyed skydiving, and probably would enjoy BASE jumping as well, but that probably had a lot to do with the fact that he was something of an adrenaline junkie. He had questions for her, and the fact that she was asking questions now meant that he was willing to try asking his first question, even though she hadn't answered the first time he had asked. "So... What's your name?"
That had Pippa grinning. She pushed herself off the counter and reached for her knapsack, but thought better of taking it with her. Instead she stored it in the back of the cabinet closest to her and then righted herself, looking back at Jason. She didn't say anything for a few moments while she maneuvered the mess she'd made on the floor and then started toward the exit. "You'll just have to find that out when I come get you for BASE jumping," She said as she walked by him, out the door, and on her way.
Jason just stared as the woman walked by him and out the door. He wasn't sure what to think about her promise to come find him for BASE jumping. First instinct was to think she was joking, but... With that woman, he wasn't as sure about that as he would have liked. Still, there was no point in worrying about it too much right now. There were more immediate things to worry about, like the state of the workshop. Sighing, he glanced around at the chaos the woman had left behind. He couldn't just leave it like this. Looked like he was going to be cleaning up after her after all. And he still hadn't managed to get her name.
