Re: Mazie, Jim, and Rusty
"Well it could have genitals if we really wanted to but then we're looking at a very different kind of robot," Jim quipped. "But staying away from any homicidal machine names sounds like a good plan, prophetic naming and all that. Maybe we should do the baby thing, wait until it's finished and see what it looks like before giving it a name. It's what my ex and I did with our daughter." A daughter. Wow. Jim was a dad. That…kind of blew Mazie's mind a little bit. She hadn't thought to ask him about his personal life, not in that way, and to realize he had a kid was kind of awesome and crazy at the same time. "We could wait until we have it and see what we've got. I don't hate that idea. What do you think, Fry?" She asked, looking back at Rusty.
Mazie's wasn't the only mind blown. Rusty blinked. "You have a daughter? What's her name? How old is she?" he asked. He also realized belatedly Mazie was talking to him. "I think it sounds awesome." he said. "Just...see what we're gonna wind up with. I like it."
If anything could pull Jim away from thinking about robots, it was going to be his daughter and he couldn't help but grin, more than a little amused by the surprise he saw on his friends' faces. "I do, yeah - Molly," he replied, expression softening though the grin showed no signs of shifting. "She's gonna be fourteen come November and doesn't that make me feel old." He chuckled and shook his head a little, not quite believing it. "Her and her mom live up in Boston, have done since Molls was about three."
"Wow," Mazie said, looking back at Jim and shaking his head after a moment. "I bet you're the coolest dad ever." Outside of her own dad, but she didn't think now was an appropriate time to mention her dad. "Tell us some more about Molly," She said, reaching for another snack from the table and popping it into her mouth. She glanced at Rusty again and grinned once more. "This is gonna be badass."
Rusty nodded, smiling. And, he did genuinely want to know more about Molly. He wondered if he'd meet her someday. Or if eventually Mazie and Jim would figure out that he was kind of a co-dependant werido that was best left distant.
