Zach had focused on Kyle, paying as much attention to him as possible, but he was also watching for Rui, curious what she’d do with Adam. It was a few moments before she was there and moving with Adam. He watched them out of the corner of his eye, then made sure Kyle shifted so he could see Adam dancing with Ru and how close to two of them were getting. It helped for Zach not to be looking at them, because he had his own pangs of something with Ru doing what she was doing. When she kissed Adam it was for the best that Zach didn’t show his emotions, because he didn’t know how to deal with that. She didn’t do that to him.
Kyle had glanced at Adam and smiled a little when he saw the other guy dancing with Ru. But then they we're kissing and the smile dropped off the artist's face as though he'd been slapped. He stopped for a moment, then took a step back, knocking into whoever was behind him, forgetting about the space he needed to leave for his wings.
Zach wasn’t one to initiate contact, but his hand went out towards Kyle, not touching him, but there to guide him back to a space where he wouldn’t hurt others. “What’s going on?” he asked, voice low, moving in closer to Kyle.
"I... I suddenly don't feel too good," Kyle said, his voice quiet. "I'm just... I'm going to go. Just, going to go. To my room. I'm going to go lie down," he said, his expression wavering between completely blank and totally devastated as his usual control was overridden by the alcohol.
That had happened much faster than Zach had expected. For all Kyle’s talk, he was instantly crushed at the sight of Adam with someone else, the artist couldn’t even hide it. “Don’t go...” he said, voice soft.
"I don't feel well," Kyle repeated, pulling back from Zach and turning to push his,way off the dancefloor, towards his room. He knew Adam had the right to kiss whomever he wanted. He just didn't have to stay and watch.
Zach looked back at Ru and Adam, who’d just started kissing again and he made a decision. He lurched forward, following after Kyle, leaving the dancefloor as well until he caught up with Kyle, not wanting him to leave alone. Not when there was so much to see. “What happened?” he asked once they were away from the crowd.
"I told you, I don't feel well," Kyle insisted. "I shouldn't drink. It never ends well when I drink."
Zach half twitched before he did it, but his hand caught Kyle’s arm this time, pulling him to a stop as gently as he could and he had to force himself not to take his hand off as soon as they slowed. “What does your drinking have to do with what he’s doing?” Zach gave Kyle a look like he knew. He could pick out Adam. And he’d seen Kyle’s face.
Kyle reached his door, then stopped. "Nothing. Has nothing to do with him," he said, gesturing back towards Adam on the dance floor. "He can do whatever he wants. Nothing to do with me."
“What about what you want?” Zach asked, waiting to see what Kyle would do. “If you leave, I don’t have a reason to stay.” It was an offer, one Zach wasn’t entirely sure why he was making, but it was there.
Kyle's expression hardened, taking on a bitchy demeanor. "I told you," he said, slowly and deliberately, managing not to slur. "I don't feel well. Why are you pushing this?" he asked.
Zach bit his lip, an expression that surprised himself, but he did pull his hand away. “I thought wrong.” He couldn’t explain it, but there was a rise of shame in his gut, like he’d gone too far. “If you decide you don’t want to be alone, come find me.” Zach tugged at his wings, managing to get out of them and hand them over to Kyle, before taking a step away, back towards the elevator that would take him back to his room.
