Nodding, Wren grinned. "Yes. There was rescuing going on. I mean technically, that dragon has been holding me captive since I was a little girl." she said. "So, it's been a long, drawn out ordeal." she said, doing a good impression of being serious. "It was really lucky that I met a dragonslayer."
“You’re right. Since seven. It’s fate that I came around.” Adam grinned, almost laughing to himself, but trying to stay serious like she was. “It’s a shame you’ve got a boyfriend or I’d demand the expected kiss for the hero after he saved the princess.”
There was a blush again, though she laughed. "Yes, my prince would probably be quite upset about that, and do we really want this party to become a duel? They're messy, I hear." she said, sure Adam was kidding about it.
“Yeah, yeah, the prince is always getting the princess instead of the knight.” Adam smiled, slightly disappointed about Charlie in general, but managing to hide it. “They do. Plus we both know I’d win.” He added the last part in a lower tone, as if he was telling her a secret. He honestly had no idea how he’d fare with Charlie, but probably better than he had with Ryan.
Wren smiled, and gave Adam a hug. "Of course." she told him. Then she started to circle around with him so they could dance, feeling good about pretty much everything. "I'm glad we finally got to go through with the plan." she told him. "We've wanted to do this for you since that first day you mentioned it."
“You two are just sneaky,” Adam said, following her lead to dance with her. “Luckily, I’m not too worried about it.” And he liked it. Once Kyle explained it better, he even loved it. “You know, no one’s ever done anything like this for me. This...selfless.”
"Maybe that just means you're around the right people now." she told him, feeling all kinds of warm and fuzzy tonight. It just seemed like a great night, all around. She was happy. Truly happy tonight, without any nagging darknesses in the back of her mind. "You're worth it."
“I think it does. Which feels great.” Adam knew Charlie was around, but he ignored it for the moment, leaning closer to kiss Wren’s cheek. “Thank you. You are too.”
