Adam was actually enjoying himself, but after a drink or two he had his eyes open for someone in particular, moving through the small crowd to find her. He'd picked out her dress, only later realizing what the true purpose was, but wasn't properly prepared to see her in it. After a quick instance of staring he slipped up close to Wren, reaching for her hand. "I think we should dance."
Wren was having a great time! She'd noticed other people looking surprised but giving her nods of what she assumed were approval when she went by, Chester was looking great and seemed to be having a great time too, there was dancing, she'd had a couple of drinks...it was a very, very good night. She wasn't even being hit with insecurity, which earlier she had been positive would happen. "Adam!" she said. "Hello!" She smiled brightly at him, then took another drink from her glass, handing it to Charlie to hold. "I'll be back!" she promised, before looking back to Adam. "Lead the way, Knight!"
Adam half nodded to Charlie, but that was it. There was no need to do more. He led Wren towards where others were dancing, pulling her close to him once they were there. "You look amazing Princess," he told her, smiling a little brighter than usual. How were both his best friends such attractive people?
Grinning, she looked pretty giddy, really. "Thank you!" she said. "You were such a big help!" she told him, grateful. "And I have something for you." she added, pausing to untie the ribbons attached to the bottom of her mask's stick. Then she presented him with the little dragon trinket box--all part of the plan. "What dragonslayer is complete without his dragon?"
“Help? Hardly. I think I lucked out on that part where you probably look great in everything.” He kept one arm around her waist as he took the box from her, chuckling a little. “A real dragon.” There was amusement in his eyes and tone, looking at the box before looking back up at her. “Thank you. For this. For...believing me.”
Wren blushed a little. "Now you're just being sweet." she told him to the compliment. "And yes, a real dragon! It was mine, before. One of the few things I kept over the years. I've had him since I was..." she paused, thinking back. "Seven?" she suggested, laughing a little. "And now he belongs to you, Dragonslayer." She smiled at him, appreciating the moment. It was so nice for things to feel like they were back on a good footing again. "You're welcome. And I'll always believe in you." she promised. She wouldn't have put so much effort into the set up with Kyle for Adam on this if she didn't. She was just glad they had an opportunity to go through with it.
“Nope, being honest. Dragonslayers don’t do sweet,” Adam said looking at the box again before tucking it away in a pocket. “I’ll keep him safe. Or everyone else safe from him.” He liked the same sensation, that things were right with Wren again. “So did I rescue you? Is that the story?”
