Hayden and Jae
Hayden hadn’t intended to attend the masquerade, but in the end decided he might as well. It was better than being locked away in his room and he’d missed social gatherings, having enjoyed them before he’d been locked up. Being in prison had kind of killed his desire to socialize, but the people in here didn’t seem like normal prisoners. At least the one’s he’d met so far. So he’d selected himself a costume, fairly certain that he was some version of Robin Hood with a mask, and headed into the party. Instinctively, he looked for both his brother and Cassandra, though he wasn’t sure he wanted to approach either of them quite yet.
Jae was looking around at the entirety of the party, thinking it was kind of a kick ass shindig, considering the locale of it all among other things. She'd kind of hobbled her costume together out of two. A viking woman and an angel. Which in her head equalled a Valkyrie. She had the viking armor costume type thing, angel wings that she'd actually kind of partially dyed with foodcoloring to add a little rainbow flaire, and of course she had a plastic sword and shield. Because how could you not. She'd ditched the helmet, however, in favor of a silvery mask over her eyes. No girly stuff to it, just a plain one, because she was a force to be reckoned with, who chose who lived and died on the battlefield. Glitzy girly shit could be stowed. She walked up to who she was guessing was Robin Hood, and nodded. "Hey there, Hoodman. And just how the fuck are you tonight?"
"Ru?" he asked, a smile trying to make it's way to his lips. He wasn't entirely sure it was Ru, but it kind of looked like her. The mask was throwing him off. And the costume. "I'm good. Glad to be out, I guess. How're you? Like the wings," he added, even if he wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to be. A vengeful angel? A battle angel? He was wracking his brain, but wasn't sure he knew.
"Uhhhh no," Jae said. "Now here's where I decide if you're just racist or something." she teased. Which she wasn't really going to do, though she knew there were pretty few asians here at all. Not that he could even see her eyes, or anything. "Thanks for the wings, thing. It wasted time." she added. "But I had to represent the rainbow bridge somehow." she added. "Name's Jae. You are...?"
"No! You're just wearing a mask and I'm an idiot," Hayden smiled, trying to make up for his mistake, but still completely honest. "I've only been here a few days and she's one of the few people I've met. What's the rainbow bridge, by the way? I'm Hayden," he said, offering her a hand to shake.
Jae had to laugh. "Calm down. I wasn't really playing the race card." she told him, though she did pull her mask up so he could get a look at her face for a second before she put it back down. "It's a Norse Mythology thing." she answered. "And hi, Hayden." she said, shaking his hand. "So, newbie, huh? How's that workin out for you?"
"Ah, definitely not Ru," he said, glad that she'd pulled the mask up so that he might recognize her later. He did the same, just for a second, though she might still mistake his brother for him later. "It's been interesting. Learning things that I hadn't in prison, so I guess that's something." Not that he was happy about it, but it was better now than later. "Have you been here since the beginning?"
"Learning things like what? Don't hit, put things back where you got them, and be nice to girls?" she asked, smirking as she took a drink from her glass. "And not the very beginning, but pretty close to it."
"I think I learned those back in kindergarten," Hayden grinned, though his record wasn't all that great so far. He'd been hit and he didn't know that he'd continue to be nice to one particular girl. "I'm here with my twin brother and my soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend, the soon-to-be part due to new things I've learned since we were reunited. I've gone two years in prison not realizing how things really were."
"...so that's a whole big thing, then." Jae noted. "Which is also sounding too heavy for a party with masks, so how about I get the short, short version? You have like, a minute thirty. Go!" she said, giving him a 'c'mon, roll!' gesture.
