Cal didn't miss the repetition there, or the anxious gestures that came with it, so clearly it was a sore subject for Adam. "And it's good that you haven't, but dude? Nothin' about it's stupid, for real. Everybody slips up sometimes, and by the sound of it you slipped and caught yourself 'fore it got real bad. That's a good thing, man, trust me," Cal stressed with the same easy sort of support he'd perfected back in residency.
"I mean, I used to see cases gettin' rolled off ambulances, guys and ladies who you'd think had it made, or who at least were old enough to know better? And they'd be twitchin', frothin', bleedin' out the nose where their septum shoulda been, sometimes flatlinin'," he recalled. "You didn't ever let it get that far, so feel good about that, man. We all got problems, the 'stupid' ones are the ones we never try to fix. Like you said, it feels good to be in control, right? So just... just let it feel good. Enjoy it."
