If you were my partner, I would like yo know up front? I mean, you can preface it with "I'm so sorry but.." or maybe mention that you're not sure how to reply and brainstorm a tweak or end/shift the thread?

I know it's nerve wracking and I'm sorry i don't have advice for how to handle the anxiety part, but I wish you luck!
