This Really Cool Thing That You('ll) Love
Alright, so Checkvist is a pretty neat organizational tool that you can create, build, and maintain almost exclusively through keyboard shortcuts. It'll probably appeal to those who don't like the (sometimes) high maintenance of thread trackers, or those who don't need all the aesthetic bells and whistles of a thread tracker. OR you could be a geek like me and just like making outlines.
First things first. Checkvist is free to sign up for and free to use. They do, however, have a paid option for a Pro account where you get some additional perks for $9.9* a month per person or a yearly option of $39. You also have the option of trying out their Pro features with a 14-day free trial. But, between you and me, for RP and simple outline and list purposes, the free account is more than enough.
How do I get started?
Once you're all signed up, you'll find yourself on the main page with no lists. To make a list, simply click the button and you can get started by giving your list a name. Example: Game Name, where Game Name is the name of the game you RP in. <-- That was a bit of a tongue twister, eh? Once you've got a name typed in, hit Enter and voila! You've started your list.
Ok, now what?
At this point you can simply just start typing and hitting enter as you go and when you've got your list created, you can start formatting and styling it (to a point). As you can see below, you're able to indent items on your list.

*The $9.9 is directly lifted from the main content of their pricing page, but they also have a bigger, off-to-the-side thing that says $3.9. So if this is something you think you'll do, you might want to contact the creators before you go spending your money to see what the actual price is per month.

key on your keyboard. Easy peasy, right? Of course it is. But, Erin, how did you get it to be a numbered list? So glad you asked, my friend, because that's pretty easy to do, too! You have three list styles to choose from when you type oo
on your keyboard to bring up the Options menu. Next to List Styles, choose the one you want (I chose 1.1 Numbers). The other options will refer to what you want to happen once you've completed a task on your list. How do I mark a task as completed?
It's pretty simple, just hit the

There is a lot you can do such as make text bold (
Ctrl+B
or bb
), italic (Ctrl+I
or ii
), and you can even create a link out of your task, which is pretty much my favorite feature of this whole thing. To do that, make sure you're editing your task (ee
), then hit Ctrl+K
on your keyboard. Grab a link to your thread, input the URL, and hit Enter
and then hit Enter
again. Congrats! You've made a link to your thread. For RP purposes, that's pretty much it. There are other things you can do like share your list, etc. If you ever need a refresher on which shortcuts to use, press
