Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

My super old version of Photoshop isn't compatible with the newest OS on my Mac :,( RIP Photoshop. RIP my icon making.

Does anyone have a good tutorial for Gimp? I downloaded it last night, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do shit with it. I will also accept recs for other free/cheap alternatives to Photoshop.

(x-posted from my personal journal)

Hey! I use GIMP exclusively and I use it almost daily some weeks haha. I'd already been thinking about doing a series of tutorials, honestly, so knowing someone specifically is wanting them is great!

What are some specific things you're needing help with? I'd be happy to get started on it!

My main thing to start off with is that in PS I used the levels function to adjust brightness and contrast, so I was looking to see if that was a thing in Gimp and it was late and I was tired and didn't see it.

Most of what I use PS for aside from resizing/cropping is playing with the lighting, sooo I think my #1 would be learning how to do that in Gimp. :)

(PS you are the BEST, thank you for jumping in this 💜)

Okay, you're in luck because I fix lighting a lot in GIMP LOL.

I also recently learned from a PS-using friend that GIMP actually has something PS (or older version of it, at least) doesn't have: Color temperature correction, which makes turning SUPER blue or yellow screens into something more evened out a breeze. I'd been using it with no clue that PS didn't have the same thing, so when I was telling her to try something on some particularly badly lit caps and she was like "Welp PS doesn't have it," I was like what lol.

ANYWAY, I'll do a run through of the tools in GIMP I find the most helpful for lighting and correction, etc. and let you know! 💖

Ooooh, that is super cool!

Thanks so much for your help! I've exclusively used Photoshop for yeaaaaars so trying something new is a little daunting for me!

Absolutely dude! Switching programs after so long is always such a hard thing to get used to. Here you go! Let me know if you have any questions!

Sorry for comment jumping but if you let your friend know that in Photoshop it's just called Color Balance <3 not sure if there is an auto setting since I always fix it manually and I'm too lazy to open right now, but there's pretty much a way to do almost anything in Photoshop... whether it's with color balance, curves, or selective colors. What it really boils down to is fixing the white balance of a picture, which is basically just telling the programme which part of the picture is supposed to look "white" and then it goes from there. I hope that makes sense?

That's fine, dude!! Thanks for the heads up; I'll let my friend know! 💖

Affinity Photo is very similar and much cheaper than PS.

Still a bit out of my price range, unfortunately! ♥ Gimp is delightfully free, so I'm working on learning to use it :)
