Chaos Theory [05 Nov 2008|12:19pm]

Chaos Theory is an X-Men-centric powerswap game currently centered around the events of the Salem Academy. Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr are co-headmasters of the school, but as the mutant population grows their ideological differences are beginning to cause serious rifts in the student body. The days of Salem Academy's isolation may be coming to an end as the politics and the events of the outside world invade the previously private school, and bring them into the open.

Although Chaos Theory is an X-Men centric game, other Marvel characters are welcome. See the rules for details on applying for non X-Men Marvel characters.

New York City, and Harbour, have been mysteriously transported back 80 million years to the Cretaceous period. A period where dinosaurs rule over the land, sea, and sky. With the appearance of bees, plants and angiosperms also start to flourish and the weather has settled on temperate. It's a crucial time in Earth's natural evolution history.

Why and how, has NYC become the newest victim of time-travel field trips gone wrong?

Well no one's really sure about that. Whoever did it covered their tracks and left nothing. As if relocating a city through time wasn't impressive enough; time travel itself seems to be prohibited. On top of that, they managed to gather all the heroes, villains, and anyone they ever associated with, and plop them into the city just before the "big move." Also? They've managed to raise the dead, in the non-zombie way. It's all rather impressive but the lack of answers make it terrifying.

Outside the city it's beautiful, untouched, and primitive and dangerous. Nevermind facing your arch nemesis -- there's an allosaurus more than ready to gobble both of you up for lunch.

So what happens when the heroes and villains start to lose their abilities as they start to uncover secrets about their major relocation?

Welcome to The Retreat, a rehabilitation center specializing in Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome for war victims. It is funded by Saint Mungo's hospital and set within the beautiful woodlands of the Kamchatka Peninsula. We proudly boast a well trained staff of nurses and doctors specializing in psychological counseling while, at the same time, providing a healthy and nurturing sense of community and family.

What our pretty brochure won't tell you, however, is that our head doctor is a bit of a bored masochist with a god-complex, magic within The Retreat has been nearly nullified, the grounds are charmed to heighten emotional responses, and there's hidden cameras set up everywhere, even behind the two-way mirrors.

So won't you join us in our pseudo-quest for mental wellness in a post-war world, where even though the Dark Lord is dead, the victims of the second war can't escape the fact that they'll always be someone else's pawn and plaything.
Wanted Patients and staff, original characters accepted. If this game concept sounds familiar it is because we've been around for a while. We've just cleaned everything out though for a fresh start so if you missed out on the game before, now is your chance!

Overview

On January 1st 2008, 100 people gave up a year of their lives to science. Each person was told that they would be part of a social experiment. Each person believed that their experiment was the only one. Each person believed that they would not be expected to deal with anything they couldn’t handle.

Each person was wrong.

At the beginning of September 2008, the authorities shut the experiments down and it was only then that the full extent began to come to light. There had not been one experiment, but five. And there were more than the original 100 people involved. As well as the original subjects, the scientists who ran the experiments had supplemented and replaced as people had dropped out and, in more than a handful of cases, died.

Nobody knew what the purpose of the experiments was, but one thing became clear very quickly – the participants were all severely traumatised by their experiences. And so they were each made an offer. They would each receive counselling, together with anything which they had been promised by the scientists in the way of financial compensation. They would be housed and given the opportunity to slowly reintegrate into society. Each participant was encouraged to agree to this and a town specifically provided to house them all. This way they would be surrounded by people who had been through similar experiences, as well as trained counsellors and ‘normal’ people employed to move to the town and supplement the participants, running stores and the town structure. Participants were encouraged to obtain employment, or given the opportunity to enroll in distance learning schemes. To get on with their lives, but to do so in isolation, distanced from the rest of the world.

The question was, was it actually over? Were they actually free? Or had the experiment simply moved on to the next stage?

Was this all just still a test?

reEcho is a brand new original character game, looking to recruit new players! Now accepting applications for experiment participants, interns, and volunteers!
