In the year 1997 the mutant problem hit it's breaking point across the world. As the news got out of a new species, violence against them escalated until the countries of the UN decided to deport all known mutants to Genosha, a small island off the eastern coast of Madagascar. Genosha, once a mostly uncivilized island, became hell. The current government, already grossly abusing its own mutant natives, saw the new population as a chance at free labour. Genosha quickly became a slave nation. The Genoshan economy flourished until 2005 when Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier lead an uprising. It was a bloody civil war that ended in mutant victory after only a few months. The rest of the civilized world stayed out of the fued to avoid retaliation by the mutants they feared. The next months were spent cleaning up the debris of the war and demolishing state buildings used for seven years to enslave and torture mutants. Erik, already a survivor of the Jewish Holocaust, swore that it would never happen again. His political party, the Brotherhood, formed around the ideals of taking power to prevent the humans from cleansing mutant kind. Erik's partner, Charles, had other ideas. His party formed, calling themselves Excalibur and believing that mutants could live in peace on Genosha and one day in the world, only using violence to defend themselves. Charles, formerly an educator, wanted to teach a message of peace to his followers. He saw that any one group in absolute power would grossly abuse its position-- mutant or human. This difference in idealogy split the team of old friends. Now, in 2008, a government is being put into place and an election is nearing. The two top candidates for President of Genosha are Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. For the most part, it has been peaceful, but some supporters have become a bit zealous and are letting their enthusiasm get a little out of hand. On top of that, the previous population still exists. Some humans feel like the world has failed them, thrusting its problems upon the tiny island nation and changing Genosha into a completely different country. Others are angry that the mutant menace is in charge of their population. Some violently seek to restore Genosha to a nation where mutants are meant to serve mankind. Some mutants have been there from the beginning, some have recently manifested, fled, or been discovered. As mutation becomes more popular through evolutionary and scientific means, Genosha only continues to grow. |
