...Angels and Demons can’t cross over onto our plane. So, instead we get what I call half-breeds. The influence peddlers. They can only whisper in our ears. But a single word can give you courage, or turn your favorite pleasure into your worst nightmare. Those with the demon’s touch like those part angel, living alongside us. They call it the balance. I call it hypocritical bullshit....

The Premise There’s a world beneath the London you know, a world that smells of brimstone and blood, where magic lives alongside the mundane. It’s a world where you can buy abilities at a travelling Market, where when the circus rolls into town it brings nightmares with it, and is presided over by an organisation so old, time has forgotten when the Library began. It’s a world where anything goes, where London is just another board for the game and gamble for souls is taking place and you might - just might - encounter one of Heaven’s own or a demon amid the crowds on the underground and they play to win.
Influenced by Hellblazer, Neil Gaiman and urban fantasy, At the Gates is an original supernatural game with noir themes, focusing on the lives of those jostling along in the magic world in shadowy other-London. Magic is harsh, horror is common, character realism is encouraged

Wanted We need: those who are trying to understand and adapt to abilities -- the firestarter with the potential to make everything a bit smoky, the telekinetic fighting for control, the weather-manipulator with a few false starts to become residents at Haven, the in-game sanctuary for the struggling. We need Librarians, those well-controlled individuals who know exactly where the balance ought be between Heaven and Hell and who are unafraid to face off the denizens of both in order to fight for it. We need the self-interested, those souls striking out and fearless of repercussions. We need the rest of the vampire community, those that are trying to maintain a low-profile for fear of reprisal. We need the rest of the Market family, the magical mafia themselves with fingers in all magical operations across the city!

The Originals. The most feared vampires out there. They can control vampires with a simple suggestion, make witches and warlocks work for them despite the animosity between the two. Indestructible with no known weakness. Except one. A dagger dipped in the fossilized ashes of the White Oak Tree, a dagger that will kill any vampire who wields it as a safety precaution. A dagger kept by a witch in the Originals' fold, Alexandra, to ensure it's safe keeping so that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
Katherine Pierce knows the dangers of the Originals, having been running from them for five hundred years. They wanted to use her to break a curse, but her becoming a vampire ruined their plans and now they want revenge. So Katherine did what made sense. She seduced Alexandra and stole the dagger. She knows that she can't kill the leader of the Originals without dying herself and she has fought too hard to survive. But she knows whom she can go to to do the deed for her. And this is why she returned to Mystic Falls. To save herself and to regain Stefan's affections.
Meanwhile in Mystic Falls, the town is reeling from the Founder's Day fiasco. The Tomb vampires are dead. Caroline is in the hospital with internal bleeding. Tyler is trying to figure out what he heard, not knowing his father is dead. And amidst all of this, Katherine is back, bringing with her a myriad of problems for everyone involved.

Forgotten Gods |

"I know how gods begin. We start as dreams, then we walk out of the dreams into the land. We are worshipped and loved, and take power to ourselves. And then one day there's no one left to worship us. And in the end, each little god and goddess takes its last journey back into dreams... and what comes after, not even we know."
-- Neil Gaiman, Brief Lives |

Forgotten Gods follows the deities of ancient mythologies, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers have moved on to new religions, the gods' powers have waned -- for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, intent on regaining the power that was once theirs and reviving their followings.
And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the old ones, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep, abiding wariness.
Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology. |
