Forgotten Gods [30 Jan 2011|12:45am]

"Immortals are what you wanted," said Thor in a low, quiet voice. "Immortals are what you got. It is a little hard on us. You wanted us to be for ever, so we are for ever. Then you forget about us. But we are still for ever. Now at last, many are dead, many are dying," he then added in a quiet voice, "but it takes a special effort."

-- Douglas Adams

Forgotten Gods follows the deities of ancient mythologies, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers have moved on to new religions, the gods' powers have waned -- for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, intent on regaining the power that was once theirs and reviving their followings.

And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the old ones, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep, abiding wariness.

Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology.

It's not what you have, it's who you know.
January 2006. After years of war and rebuilding, Wizarding Great Britain has finally moved on... and it is thriving! But old prejudices die hard... School rivalries still ring true, pureblood supremecists still hold their ideals close, and muggleborn rights activists still fight for equality. Not everyone gets along, and this world is far from perfect... but like it or not, we're all still connected.
Where will you fit in?

SEEKING: Quidditch players, Prophet employees, Euan Abercrombie, Luna Lovegood, Patil twins, Weasleys, and more!

You think you know London, its streets and alleys like the creases of your palm. You don't know all its secrets. In its depths are places to buy amulets and tarot readings, a talisman that permits the wearer to manipulate luck hangs alongside bottles of herbs and demon's blood. Books so ancient the pages are tissue-thin jostle against postcards of buses and telephone boxes. There are bars where the clientele don't just find the dim light flattering, but downright necessary, and the smell of brimstone lingers in the nostrils. There are corners and recesses where magic isn't trickery or sleight of hand, but blood and bone and flesh and you might -- you might -- catch sight of feathers pure as snow and light, if you know where to go. If you know how to see. There's a pitched battle being fought for this other London and your London besides -- one in which every human in existence is being counted in a gamble for souls, Heaven and Hell trying to tip the scales and grave-faced Librarians holding them steady. And all the time, people go about their lives with a little pinch of something extra in a London you'll never see.

Premise

This world is a lie, a grand illusion that none of us can see through. We are trapped here, living lives that are not ours in a time that is long gone, and a place that never was. This is Eidolon City, home of the captive dreamers. Are the lives we lead here unspoken wishes? Personal hells? Or a twisted echo of the waking world we cannot remember?

We are not alone in this place, this reflection of ourselves. We are the dreamers, but with us are the Aspects. They come from religion, from fairytales, from primal concepts of life and death, from everything that man has ever given a name. But as we are different here, so are they. Unbound from their origins, a hero may fall, a villain may flourish, and every god and demon looks no different from you or I. It falls to us now. To the dreamers and the dreams, let us choose what this place will be. Wake up. Enter the dream.

About Us

Eidolon City is a newly revamped and re-opened noir-themed game in a 1940s setting seeking players in a vast number of different roles, from mobsters to policemen, business owners of every stripe, and everything in between. We've got room for Dreamers, the characters that provide the dreamscape. Into something a little more fanciful? Our Aspect system allows you to adapt a concept from existing fairytales, fables, or myths as a noir-centric character, with plenty of room to rework your concept as the game goes. We actively encourage character-driven changes to the larger setting of the game, from owning notable landmarks to vying for power among the crime syndicates and police.

Unsure about what kind of character to play? We have examples to help you get started, and a list of wanted characters and frameworks for characters to help you get right into the game with personal plots and connections! Don’t be shy, come take a look!

Looking For

We're just getting started here with a re-opening, the game should start very soon! We just need a few more people before we open our doors up wide! We've re-worked the entire concept, and have created a setting that's easy to come into and get involved with! What we're looking for are police officers, mob bosses, bar/club owners, and family connections to accepted characters! Take a look around, any business listed that doesn't specifically have an owner is open for you to create them! Have ideas for a business of your own? We're happy to have it! Got a character that you haven't had a place for? See how they work here! Coming in and getting involved is easy!
