Their goal? To allow humans to develop superpower abilities. In 2008, they discovered a formula that would affect certain humans depending on their genetic structure. Once the Gardiner Initiative cut through the red tape of governments around the world they put this chemical compound into world water supplies. As only few humans would be affected by the compound, it was the Gardiner Initiative’s intention to spread the compound as far as possible in order to generate as many meta-humans. In January 2010 stories began to surface around the world of people who could perform amazing feats such as fly, turn invisible, even read minds. The Initiative began to round up these people. Some they deceived by offering to help them with their new found powers while others were abducted outright when they resisted. Those that have been captured so far have been brought to a prison-like building in a hidden location and put into the Gene Unit. Here they will live and receive training to develop and learn control over their powers until the Initiative decides it time to start phase two of their training which will induct them into the world of espionage, black ops and assassination. Characters from the simplest fables to the most complex works of fiction known to mankind have all been written to convey a message, teach a lesson, stir emotion. But what would happen if a character from story A suddenly had to interact with someone from story B? athenaeum is a game centered around the lives of the unusual residents of Powell, Washington. In short, every person who lives in Powell is based off of a literary character. While other games with this theme might deal with magic, reincarnation, powers or crossing over of literary characters from their world to ours, the residents of Powell are ordinary people who simply share the same traits and histories as characters throughout the world of fiction. [15 Sep 2010|03:16pm] behind the veil Only one pair was still battling... Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her. "Come on, you can do better than that!" he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room. The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest. The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock. Harry released Neville, though he was unaware of doing so. He was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wand, as Dumbledore, too, turned towards the dais. It seemed to take Sirius an age to fall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch. Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place. Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange's triumphant scream, but knew it meant nothing - Sirius had only just fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second… And he did. Sirius found himself in a world he did not recognize. All around him were familiar faces and yet their lives were not how he remembered it. Even his own life had been lived differently. [15 Sep 2010|07:55pm] It is August 1998. In the world of Harry Potter that you know, things should be shifting toward normal. They wouldn't be perfect yet, but then again when is anything perfect. Admittedly, things would be a good sight better than the way things are here. All but two Horcrux has been discovered. The locket, the diadem, the cup, the ring, and the diary. We all know about Harry but what of the 7th? Instead of creating the horcrux in Nagini, Voldemort decided to wait until he was returned to his body to create it. He felt it would make it more powerful if he was in his correct form. So after killing Cedric in the graveyard, he gave his most loyal and cowardly follower, Peter Pettigrew, a gift in the form of a new hand. Little did his follower know, the hand was a piece of Voldemort himself. This small change shouldn't do much to history, right? If only that were the case. Peter was never in the Malfoy Manor the night that the Trio was there. He couldn't repay his life debt and was not killed that night. No, he was kept safe with Severus Snape at Hogwarts, who was the only other person amongst the Death Eaters who knew the secret of Peter's hand. Severus agonized for months on how to reveal to Harry and his friends this knowledge. No safe way presented itself given his position in the school and his inability to leave Peter behind to do anything constructive left him in a tight spot. There was no way to safely do t his without risking his own life. The Battle of Hogwarts never took place. The trio did not know the form or the location of the last Horcrux that they were aware of so they did not return to the school. Without the battle, Voldemort's rule was never upset. The Carrows remain in their positions and life has continued to grow worse for those who do not submit to Voldemort's reign of terror. Severus knows what he must do, but will the rest of you be up for the task?
