Darkness Rising [04 Sep 2009|02:50am]

September, 1978.

School is back in session and though students should be safe within the walls of Hogwarts, one of Voldemort’s Death Eaters has infiltrated the school, securing the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. His mission? To kill Albus Dumbledore.

The Dark Lord Voldemort is nearly at his full power and if Dumbledore is taken out of his way, he will have full control. After spending months fighting the Imperius Curse from Lord Voldemort, Minister of Magic, Millicent Bagnold, has completely broken from the Dark Lord’s control, a result of weeks of deception on her part. Aurors nearly caught Voldemort, but three Aurors were killed in the process and now the weakening Department of Magical Law Enforcement is getting desperate for more man-power.

Professor McGonagall’s daughter has been rescued and has been able to identify her captor; Bellatrix Lestrange. Now the Lestranges are hiding in France; awaiting the Dark Lord’s orders, but the Dark Lord’s plans for them involve using them as bait for the Ministry of Magic.

Even with his top follower on the run and his failings with the Minister, Voldemort has something else on his side; the Horcruxes. Having successfully created two, both in safe keeping, he searches for his mother’s locket and the cup of Hufflepuff, to create even more.

Greyback is turning werewolves secretly and is stalking Remus Lupin’s fiancée, Dorcas Meadowes, planning to do unthinkable things to her. But breaking into the Ministry of Magic has distracted him. Now that he knows Auror Caradoc Dearborn is the one tracking him, what will be his fate?

Alice Longbottom’s father, responsible for the death of her daughter, has been murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange, but the Ministry only has their eyes set on the Longbottoms and Dumbledore for the culprits.

Lucius Malfoy has proposed a business marriage with Narcissa Black and the two powerful families are about to merge and the new Auror trainees will soon embark on a journey that will potentially lead them all to their deaths.

Things are just beginning to get interesting.

You can. All you have to do is join.

You wake up in a strange new place, surrounded by strange new people. The life as you recall it, however vivid, no longer exists. You find yourself defined by a new name, by a new title, by a new role. Faces you do not recognise know you-have known you for a considerable length of time, perhaps all their lives. New family. New allies. New enemies. Your lifetime of memories serve no purpose here, for they are but a dream...or are they?

You just might be surprised to discover that there are others like you scattered throughout the city. So the question becomes: do you accept your new role, or cling onto the shadowy remnants of a past long gone? Do you question your sanity or persevere in your quest to seek a different answer, a different path?

Welcome to Panopolis.

Here is what happens: maybe you're sitting down to dinner at a fancy restaurant. Maybe you're just waking up on a dreary Monday morning. Maybe you're rocking your child to sleep. Then, all of a sudden, there is a flash of light, a roaring noise, and then... Nothing. You wake up in a lavish, unfamiliar bedroom; there is a knock on the door and in comes a house elf, huge eyes and batlike ears and all, with a tray of your favorite breakfast foods. The sun is shining down on a beautiful morning in a place you've never seen before. What happened to you? Where did your life go? And how do you get it back?

The Manor is a panfandom RPG, dedicated to encouraging character development and relationships based around plot arcs designed by the moderators. Your character is taken out of their lives at any point, even after their deaths, and dropped into a place cobbled together from bits and pieces of buildings from across the various universes. You never know when you'll take a turn and enter the Parthenon, or the brig of a Starfleet vessel. You are housed with people of your own kind: if you are a heroic character, you are situated near the rooms of the other heroes. A villain? You're with your murderous pals in another wing of the Manor. But how can life in this frightening place compare to the one you had? How can you befriend these unkind strangers?

That's where They come in. The Ladies of the Manor, the Mistresses of the House, the Deadly Duo, the Raving Rulers. They are the White Witch Jadis, ruler of Narnia, and Lady Mary Van Tassel, summoner of the Headless Horseman. They stay in their tower, look down on the Manor, and make changes in your life. They might decide one day that you need some romance, and spike your drink and that of another person in the Manor so that you fall hopelessly in love for about a week. Maybe they want you to make a few enemies, so they make sure you get lost in the villains' wing. And maybe they decide that you've gotten too uppity, and need to spend a little time dead. But don't worry: no one's dead for long, here.

This is the Manor. Welcome home.

New York City, and Harbour, have been mysteriously transported back 80 million years to the Cretaceous period. A period where dinosaurs rule over the land, sea, and sky. The Earth is primitive, young, and Pangea is in its second phase of seperation. With the appearance of bees - plants and angiosperms start to flourish, and the weather has settled on temperate. It's a crucial time in Earth's natural evolutionary history. So why and how, has NYC become the newest victim of time-travel field trips gone wrong?

Skrulls. Rather than hunt down everyone of interest and give away their return to Earth - they've promptly been collecting and sending them into the past - taking their places in the future. As if relocating a city through time wasn't impressive enough; time travel itself seems to be prohibited. Also? They've managed to raise the dead, in the non-zombie way.

Outside the city it's beautiful, untouched, primeval and dangerous. Nevermind facing your arch nemesis -- there's an Allosaurus more than ready to gobble both of you up for lunch!

WANTED: IRON MAN, BOOSTER GOLD, STORM, ICEMAN, WONDER WOMAN, KID DEVIL, AQUAMAN, LIVEWIRE, AURORA, FIRE & ICE, VIXEN, HAL JORDAN, SCARECROW, POWER-GIRL, GREEN GOBLIN, BLACK WIDOW, MARY JANE WATSON, MR FANTASTIC, PEPPER POTTS, GWEN STACY, DAREDEVIL, GAMBIT, IRIS ALLEN, LUCY IN THE SKY, SPOILER, HARVEY DENT, SILK SPECTRE I & II, DEATHSTROKE, RORSCHACH, VENOM, JUBILEE, CAPTAIN ATOM, GUY GARDNER, STARMAN - and many more!

The 1996-1997 school year ended with the death of Albus Dumbledore, but while he and Harry were uncovering the truth behind Lord Voldemort's immortality Lord Voldemort was himself in the final stages of a plan that would bring him that much closer to everlasting life.... To take over the Ministry of Magic. Break into the Department of Mysteries. And solve the mystery of the Veil -- the doorway between life and death.

On 1 August 1997, a battle raged inside the Ministry as Death Eaters fought Aurors and Ministry officials for the control of the Ministry for Magic -- and the control of Wizarding England. The Order of the Phoenix found out hours too late, and by that time, Voldemort had won.

The next day, the Daily Prophet announced that Lord Voldemort had declared himself Minister of Magic. The reaction was immediate, as countless witches and wizards fled the country. They, as the remaining magical population would soon discover, were the lucky ones. While St. Mungo's remains neutral and Gringotts Bank has taken a violently oppositional stance, the remaining wizarding institutions, including Hogwarts, have no choice but to go along with the Dark Lord's demands.

While the Death Eaters have been running the country, slowly but surely destroying all that was good about wizarding society, Voldemort has been examining the veil. It didn't take long before he found a way out.

Thus he entered through the veil to explore the realm of the dead. But what he didn't count on was that as he entered, someone was released. Looking exactly as they did the day they died, that soul, who was in stasis at the happiest time of their life, has no knowledge of current affairs or their life after that happiest moment. But they're back, and the only way out for them is to die again. But they don't remember death - they only remember life.

Appearing in a discrete alleyway in the heart of Diagon Alley, they are lost, confused, and have no idea what to do. But soon after the first of the undead was discovered, those loyal to the Order have been carefully watching, making sure those who return are properly cared for and given the latest in wizarding communication: the journals. If they have family still alive, they are put in touch with them, and they do their best to readjust to life in 1997.

But the question remains: what is Voldemort looking for beyond the veil? What is it that he thinks holds the key to immortality? Only time will tell, and if Voldemort discovers it before Harry Potter destroys the remaining Horcruxes, then the wizarding world will forever be subject to the Dark Lord's rule.
