nocturnality : now accepting applications! [20 Aug 2009|03:31pm]
Nocturnality - A Victorian era Vampire Chronicles RPG

You've seen Interview with the Vampire, you've read The Vampire Lestat. But what if things had played out differently? One minute decision made on a whim can change a life or even the course of history.

Lestat de Lioncourt was instructed to live out one mortal lifetime. "To forstall it may be to lose everything," Marius had said. This Lestat did and this story you know. Clauda, Louis, Lestat- a charade of a family built upon secrets and destroyed in a single night full of flames. But what if Lestat- burnt and beaten- had sought solace somewhere other than in one who harbored him such resentment? What if he had been unable to raise his blackened and shriveled hand to knock upon the doors of the Théâtre des Vampires and instead slunk shamed and defeated into the Paris night where his plans of going to ground were once again interrupted by an immortal with pale eyes and kind hands. What would this change?

Well and alive, Claudia and Madeline move on. Lestat, reunited with Marius, travels to find a fledgling that has sought solace in one that hates him. Nicolas, thought to be dead, haunts Paris like a phantom. The year is 1862. Reunions, discoveries, a whole world on the cusp of change- what will you find here? Join Nocturnality and find out!

Nocturnality is an alternate universe plot-deviation game, meaning that the events of the game timeline deviate from the canon events of the series and head in a player decided direction.

Here is what happens: maybe you're sitting down to dinner at a fancy restaurant. Maybe you're just waking up on a dreary Monday morning. Maybe you're rocking your child to sleep. Then, all of a sudden, there is a flash of light, a roaring noise, and then... Nothing. You wake up in a lavish, unfamiliar bedroom; there is a knock on the door and in comes a house elf, huge eyes and batlike ears and all, with a tray of your favorite breakfast foods. The sun is shining down on a beautiful morning in a place you've never seen before. What happened to you? Where did your life go? And how do you get it back?

The Manor is a panfandom RPG, dedicated to encouraging character development and relationships based around plot arcs designed by the moderators. Your character is taken out of their lives at any point, even after their deaths, and dropped into a place cobbled together from bits and pieces of buildings from across the various universes. You never know when you'll take a turn and enter the Parthenon, or the brig of a Starfleet vessel. You are housed with people of your own kind: if you are a heroic character, you are situated near the rooms of the other heroes. A villain? You're with your murderous pals in another wing of the Manor. But how can life in this frightening place compare to the one you had? How can you befriend these unkind strangers?

That's where They come in. The Ladies of the Manor, the Mistresses of the House, the Deadly Duo, the Raving Rulers. They are the White Witch Jadis, ruler of Narnia, and Lady Mary Van Tassel, summoner of the Headless Horseman. They stay in their tower, look down on the Manor, and make changes in your life. They might decide one day that you need some romance, and spike your drink and that of another person in the Manor so that you fall hopelessly in love for about a week. Maybe they want you to make a few enemies, so they make sure you get lost in the villains' wing. And maybe they decide that you've gotten too uppity, and need to spend a little time dead. But don't worry: no one's dead for long, here.

This is the Manor. Welcome home.

Broken City

Mutants have been around for years,
and for a while, they were accepted members of society. Simple products of evolution, certain people were born with gifts that normal humans couldn't begin to fathom being able to accomplish. Most joked about the idea of superheroes and described these abilities as "powers" on the streets. Some, of course, didn't trust this advantage. Regardless, it wasn't abnormal to see somebody on the street corner cooling their glass of lemonade with their hands, or a shop owner doing the work of three men all with his mind. They were your brothers, your sisters, your neighbors, your teachers... They existed, and everyone knew it. America was prospering, life was content for most, and the economy continued to grow.

Then disaster struck.
America became too comfortable with their place as top dog. They became a bullying country, certain that nothing bad would befall them. On the evening of April 05, 2009, a cybernetic attack on the United States took place, wiping out every computer system in the country, and taking over those belonging to the military. Our own bombs attacked us, the economy crashed overnight, and within days America went from super power to third world country. The rich suddenly found themselves dirt poor when the computers recording their monetary earnings erased every cent; business after business went bankrupt. Soon crime was on the rise, and people had to jump through hoops to survive. In the wake of the destruction, a scape goat was needed.

They blamed mutants.
People that used to dine with their mutant neighbor soon started to attack them. Murders became the norm, and with as much chaos as there was, most went ignored. The bad economy made way for crooked cops, the rise of gangs and mafias, and, of course, every scumbag looking for a pay day to run rampant. The U.S. government, determined to build an army and get revenge, and the resources for the most powerful army was just staring them in the face. They began abducting mutants off of the streets to bring them back to a secret division known as Operation X to perform experiments on them. They were looking for ways to boost powers, but more importantly, they needed a way to control the mutants they captured. The danger was fierce, so those with powers took a variety of measures to escape persecution. Some denied what they truly were and attempted to live their lives in the new world as normal humans, hoping to never slip up in front of the wrong person. Others banded together and hid in a mostly ruined part of the country that used to be Manhattan that is rumored to be haunted, radioactive, and all other sorts of crazy superstitions (most created by the mutants living there to keep normal humans away). Still others thrived in the new dog-eat-dog world, using their powers to swindle people out of their money.

In 2020, it gets worse.
All things prior to 2009 have been eradicated from the computers, but the country slowly starts to rebuild. Eventually, people start to figure out how to survive almost normally. Computers are relied upon less, new jobs are created to take the place of robotics, and people have figured out ways to cut corners due to the shortages of items at different times--and gas at all times. Used to this way of life, people become ignorant to the allocation of funds to Operation X, which has used ten years to develop a method of brainwash that has so far proven foolproof. Each expendable test subject brings them a step closer to creating the power boosters, and an even darker world lay on the horizon for the ostracized mutants as their friends disappear--and sometimes reappear as their enemies. It forces most to head for the Broken City, as dubbed by those who founded it, a mostly underground city that looks worse than the world surrounding it but works enough to keep them alive.

All that Melody requires is you be the very best, the cream of the crop.
