The connection with magic has long been since a "new" concept. There was once a time when the world accepted magic, and the people who wielded it's power, embracing them completely. These unique individuals could raise the dead, create thunderstorms, even predict the future. But, as time went on and new concepts arose, what was once allowed and accepted ways of living life were now pressed to change. The way the old ways were viewed became twisted, turning what had been a part of life into unspeakable evil in the eyes of the world. Those who could aid with magic's power became the victims of various styles of execution and torture, before being sentenced to damnation. In the late 1400s, the fanatical attitude of the church took a turn for the worst.
These acts were enough to shatter the willingness of those few families hiding in the hostile lands. To stay out of harm, they packed their things and left. Their destination? Across the Atlantic ocean. With teleporting help from the Conjurer family, they managed to settle down and live in peace for the better part of two hundred years. They were well liked by the local natives, bringing them what technological advances that Europe as well as the aid that their magical powers could bring, also enhancing the magical gifts the natives harnessed themselves. Among these primitive people, they were viewed as deities.
It wasn't until the landing of the settlers that we have all been so familiarized to in our school text books, that the new ways and the old clashed again. The families were forced to blend back into society, resorting to hiding in plain sight. But in 1692, the Salem witch hunts began. A Puritan was unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse of a member of the Necromancer family, standing in the cemetery, well after the imposed curfew. All he could describe was the shape of a 'black man in the forest'. Thus, the trials began, after the simple minded zealots believed that the 'black man' had been the devil himself. The negative attitude drove a young female member of the Divination family to wish misfortune on the misguided families of Parris and Williams. Elizabeth and Abigail began having fits, yelling and screaming about things unseen. The result of this simple act of vengeance brought about the deaths of so many more. It was then that strict rules were placed upon the families. The elders of the magical families however, to prevent more confrontation, decided to move the families far west to a place called California, before the gold rush. Back to a place of peace and serenity, it would then be an additional hundred or so years before others came upon them, making running an option no longer. It was time to conform, to blend in with the ever spreading population of 'regular' people. Some of the families took to their own separate ways, moving off to different parts of the country, forming their own rules within their families, ignoring the code which had existed for more than half a good part of a thousand years.

[wanted] hey guess what! Hotter-than-JRM-in-The-Tudors ZEUS! Crazy-jealous HERA! Brooding HADES! Better-than-Rachael-Ray HESTIA! Lame Crafty HEPHAESTUS!
[premise] oodles of fancy When great Cronus was freed from his prison in Tartarus, it is said that he accepted his position as the king of the Elysian Islands, home of the blessed dead with humble dignity. But secretly he plotted.
Plotting and scheming, he got close to Ares, who had always eyed the throne of his father with cautious ambition, and stood behind as the God of War raised his forces. They, together with the ruling Titan brothers of old, toppled the rule of almighty Zeus and imprisoned those who had stood in their way down in Tartarus. Those who helped them fight, however, were rewarded. There was nothing to stop the titans' rule. No one could stand in their way now.
But fate would turn against those who had supported the cause of the Titans, as well. Gentle Rhea had acted before, and she would act again to protect her progeny and those who had come from them. Secretly, with help of the Fates, she freed the gods, placing them in mortal bodies, having them born into mortal families with mortal parents. And when word spread to those gods who had fought with the titans, she sent them all to the mortal plane as well.
Where are they now? They are living among us. Average citizens, average mortals. Each has no recollection of their epic past, except in dreams or "feelings." But what are they? What do they mean? ( read more )

About / Rules / Cast List / Held / Wanted / FAQ / Resources / Apply
What happens to the old gods, once their temples have crumbled and their believers have abandoned them? Do they die, forsaken, alone? Or do they remain, still wandering the world, immortal, surviving off what little belief they can gather?
Forgotten Gods follows the lives of these old deities, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers moved on to new religions, the gods' powers waned - for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, attempting to regain the power that was once theirs, to revive their followings.
And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the older gods, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep wariness.
Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology.

PROLOGUE |
You wake up one morning with a headache, you wonder if you're hung-over but you didn't drink anything last night so that can't be it and after taking a painkiller and heading to work you forget all about it. A few days later you think you back to your childhood and there's a memory that doesn't fit, it doesn't make sense and you try not to think about it because it sets you and edge and makes you feel uncomfortable.
It doesn't stop.
Maybe weeks go by, or maybe it's months, and someone turns up on your doorstep. Maybe they look official, or they're wearing jeans and a T-Shirt, but they introduce themselves and tell you that they're from something called 'The Agency', they sit you down and if you're lucky they'll make you a cup of tea or pour you a drink before explaining it all to you.
The memories are real, but they're someone else's, someone you always thought of as fictional. You're what they call a reincarnate, someone who's been reincarnated from this fictional person, brought into this world with magic that no one yet understands.
They talk about a war that's being fought between two sides of reincarnates, the good and the bad. You're not told what side to pick or that you need to, but you know that a day will come when you and the person you were and are possibly becoming will need to choose.
