"On December 3rd, 2007 everything changed.
For decades, a virus has been rumored to exist and little was known about it's origins, what it was capable of, or if there was a cure. Dubbed the "Shanti virus", it attacks the nervous system of it's host and, in most cases, it is fatal. In late December, 2007, a vial containing the virus was shattered, destroying any hope of ever coming up with a cure. After that, things began to happen rapidly. People all over the world were becoming infected and people were dying by the millions. By June 2008, it was obvious that the impact of the virus would surpass that of the Bubonic Plague and even AIDS. Hundreds of millions of people were dropping like flies and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. There were treatments that could combat it for a few days, sometimes weeks, but never anything more.
By September 2008, the world was devastated. In what felt like the blink of an eye, humanity had practically been eradicated. Ninety-three percent of the world's population fell victim to the Shanti virus; leaving a mere seven percent to pick up the pieces."

WHO WILL YOU VOTE FOR?
A 2008 Harry Potter Role Play Game
The Second Wizarding War is over. The Order of the Phoenix won, and the United Kingdom is finally at peace – or at least it was.
Then came the announcement of Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt’s retirement, and all political hell broke loose.
With peace finally upon the Wizarding World, the question on everyone’s mind is who will be elected to take his place. Most assume it will be the Boy Who Lived, but when Harry Potter refuses to become a candidate, that leaves the field wide open.
Multiple candidates are chosen, one from each Ministry Department. Each promise peace and prosperity, but most have their own agenda.
Worse, as the election heats up, a war between Departments is stirring as each fights for dominance. It’s Auror against Unspeakable, International Magical Cooperation against Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, even the Department of Regulation of Magical Creatures against the Department of Transportation. At first it’s regarded as friendly rivalry, but when candidates start to turn up dead, it turns into an all-out war.
Who will survive the election – and more importantly, who will win?
And after it’s all over…then what?

After Remus Lupin became a war hero and died for his cause, some people's opinions of werewolves softened. Still, acceptance of muggleborns was already a lot for some wizards to handle and Fenrir Greyback's side in the war (along with the countless people he killed) turned some nuetral opinions of the affliction to negativity. Werewolves had been, until the war, a very uncommon kind. With Fenrir and his few allies able to run rampant, though not respected as they had hoped, many more victims of Lycanthropy cropped up.
Now it is 2005. The war has been over for seven years. Laws are in place to protect muggleborns from hate crimes. Elves have been freed under new legislation pushed through by Hermione Granger as head of the Department for Regulation and Control of magical creatures. Some werewolves, half moons, and their families have been out since they were bitten. Others hide their affliction. There is now a Department formed to handle werewolf infection and a few loud protesters who want their kind exterminated. These are The Bitten.

THE STRUGGLE WITHIN

We all know what happens with Harry and the Trio during Deathly Hallows and a good many RPGs explore what happened at Hogwarts during this time as well. But what about elsewhere? What was happening at the Ministry and in the lives of those too old for Hogwarts? That is the question The Struggle Within will seek to answer. Any character not at Hogwarts and not part of the Trio is open for casting! We need Ministry workers, Death Eaters, Potterwatch members, Order members, as well as those who just try to keep their heads down and survive!
The Struggle Within is an insanejournal-based game and will focus on plot and character development. Mods will post weekly plot points characters can respond to, and players are encouraged to plot amongst themselves, as well. We're opening with the takeover of the Ministry by the Death Eaters and the disruption of Bill and Fleur's reception, so we're going to start off with a bang!
Official Start date: November 1, 2008, which in game is August 1, 1997. (Threading beforehand, to get friendships situated and such are welcome, though!)
