How do you create icons in photoshop?

First, find an image you want then resize it to 100x100 or something smaller. Fiddle around with tools until you're satisfied. It really depends on what kind of Icon your making, though...

There's a lot of tutorials, but I think I can boil it down into 5 bare bones steps for the simplest icons.

1. Open the source image or paste it into a new file if you're going straight from the internet.

2. Using the select tool hold shift to maintain a 1-1 height-width ratio and select a perfect square.

3. Image> Crop.

4. Image> Image Size> 100pixels (Make sure constrain proportions is checked)

5. Save
