Spammer tools! Non-friends only screening
I know that many games have been hit by spammers lately, convinced that people who love X-Men, celebs, Harry Potter, sci-fi settings, etc, surely want to buy their knock-off sweat shop shoes or whatever the spam flavor of the week is. My game was getting spammed three times a day at one point, it's enough to drive someone insane. Locking down comments or screening them all is an easy way to deal with it, but really messes up places like wanted pages, or anywhere members could want to leave notes for other members/potential players to see. There is a nice middle ground, so fear not!

I resorted to setting all my game information journals which did not have screened comments (Such as the drop box and FAQ to allow for privacy) to "Non-Friend" screening. This setting not only screens anonymous accounts, but also screens all the comments left by any account which is not friended by the mod account. If you are regularly keeping up with adds and removals, keeping the whole game friended is a normal thing anyway, so it's not really any extra work for you. This will allow your members to have their wanted lines placed on the wanted page immediately, but stops the spammers entirely, as their spam will not show up unless you approved it. I switched over to this setting five days ago and have yet to have a single spammer.

The one page I did not use this on was the "Holds" page, but it seems the spammers have not yet found this loophole! *keeps fingers crossed*

Setting it to this is easy: Open any journal entry (game information page) and click "edit." Scroll down to "Comment Screening," second from the bottom will be Non-Friends. Select that option, then save your changes and enjoy your spammer-free journal entry!

It's not the best solution ever, but hey, it's at least a step in the right direction. Hope it saves someone a little frustration. :)
