I was using PowerDVD, but ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 my screencaps have been getting lines like these in them. No idea what to do about that. :| But thanks for the other suggestion, I'll check it out!

I've heard Fraps is good, but haven't used it myself.

I adore IrfanView. It allows you to hot key for easy screen-capping and will send the captions to a specific folder of your choosing. (This is the only one I've ever used, so I have no clue if other programs work this way as well.)

i use gomplayer for youtube and to make gifs (i love it because it has an auto-cap function, yesss) and intervideo windvd for caps, which i don't really like, but haven't compared it to vlc, so

i also use the firefox add-on 'download helper' to grab videos online, then gom player to do burst captures, which you can set how long you want it to capture, how many, etc. and a specific folder that they save to.

excuse me if this is a stupid question, but: can it snag videos off youtube?

yes, it usually can! when you dl the add on, and open a page that has media or videos it can snag, the little red, blue and yellow icon will start moving and you click and it'll list the video to download.

I've used Fraps. I like it a lot. I captured everything I did for a music video. Was very easy to use.

so far it does look the easiest. i was a bit bummed that it wouldn't let me save my caps as pngs, but the difference in quality isn't enough to get fussed over. thanks!

I've used Fraps before, it's pretty good from memory.

For Mac, InstantShot! is very good.
