I... have a question. I'm not really sure what kind of question it is, or if it belongs here, but I figured this would be the best place to ask.

So, I'm slowly putting all the pieces together to start up my own game. The layout is finished and installed and looks just fine on Firefox-- but doesnt work at all on Explorer  (which I knew from the beginning, I just got distracted by how much I loved the layout). But is that okay? Most people use Firefox, from what I hear, but should I still make it accessible to those that use IE?

The layout, by the way, is by the super amazing [info]splott and is HERE. And here's the journal I have it customized and installed in: [info]zoombag

Thanks so much for your help! And very, very sorry if this isn't the right place for this kind of question.

Wooaahh no that doesnt work in IE lol

Personally I only use IE, and sometimes Firefox if I want to be logged into two accounts at once. Firefox is great for add-ns to help with Rping, but in the end I just prefer IE because that's what I'm used to - and I'm pretty sure a lot of people are actually the same. They just don't pipe up a lot lol
I wouldn't know how to make that particular layout work for IE, but I'd suggest going with something that is compatible with that also. You wouldn't want to lose potential members just because of something like the layout!

Hahaha nooo it doesn't. I decided to take a chance anyway and pray that it wouldn't be too bad... oops :P

Okay, thanks so much for your input! I certainly don't want to alienate anyone-- it'll be hard enough getting players for this game in the first place, hahaha!

I don't blame you - it is pretty!

That's aaaalways tough, especially for a new game. I mean if it was a select few players then maybe you could risk it, but for something that's brand new I wouldn't want to jeopardise it. Haha good luck with it though!

I personally only use firefox because a lot of things aren't compatible with IE, but that's a personal preference. The good news is that your layout isn't TOO complex, and relatively easy to fine a similar one. Offhand, I know of this one, but there are a ton of others.

I agree with the previous comment, because a lot of potential members will judge a community on it's layout.

Ahhh, thanks so much! That looks layout looks awesome, I'll definitely give it a go.

That's what I was thinking, too. I thought I'd just check before I went and changed it all up... I hate playing with coding :P

You should have it compatible on both. The majority of people using the web use IE. However, it's not that bad. All you really have to do to fix it is (I beieve):

1) increase the padding around entries.
2) decrease the width of the header boxes.

If you're still having trouble with it in a day or two (when I won't be doing finals), I'd be happy to help you with it. Just remind me via e-mail or another comment.

Actually, that would be... super awesome. My coding-knowledge is basically zero. If you really wouldn't mind, that would be hugely, amazingly appreciated!

Hey there! I know its been a super long time, but is your offer still good? I'd be completely and undeniably in love with you forever if you could help me out with the layout-- I'm completely coding-stupid :P

If you're too busy, that's totally cool! But it'd be much appreciated :)

I switched to firefox mostly for this issue, but, I will say, it always turned me off when I would try to view something and it looked funny in IE. When I mod, I always check layouts and profiles in both IE and Firefox to make sure it looks the same to avoid someone simply clicking out because they couldn't muddle through the layout in IE.

Good luck! It IS beautiful. :D

Yeah, that's definitely what I want to avoid. Like I said, it'll he hard enough getting players fr this sort of game in the first place!

Thanks! :D

Market Browser Share by Month (by w3schools) - however, Net Applications is the standard measurement for market share. Since it's a fee-based service, check out this recent article in PC World. IE users make up 59.95% of the share, so, my advice would be tweak it until it works. ;)

Though, I guess another point to consider is that Firefox does seem to be more popular with roleplayers, for all the add-ons!

A lot of people still use IE, but I think the majority of role-players use Firefox or even Chrome lately. I know I use Firefox because of LJ-Login and it just sucks less than IE, and I use Chrome for gdocs and my cdj just because I like to always be able to access it, esp if I'm working on apps.

But I'm also in the process of building a game, and unfortunately I think the layout works in IE but all of the html has decided to be centered in the actual pages. It's workable and readable and I can't seem to fix it whether I use the [center] tag, [div align=center] or add a center align in the code on the tables. I'm working off the assumption that most RPers don't use IE anymore, but now you're making me wonder, especially with some of your replies...

Also, I know someone who uses that layout, or at least I THINK it's the same one, and it's also not viewable on Opera. Not a lot of people seem to use that, but I figured it's good to know.
